Which promotion are most effective for web hosting companies?

Greetings All,

Which promotion/advertising channels have you found to be most effective for web hosting companies or your hosting plans?

While surfing websites, I saw web hosting companies are using banner ads on ad networks and forum marketing as their promotions

What are your choices?

Hi Ferdie,

Banner ads are good but also expensive
If your just starting out target friends, family, neighbors, business contacts etc. You will be surprised how many potential customers you have right under your nose.

For the long term work on your SEO, their are so many firms targeting keywords such as 'Web Hosting' it will be some time before Google shows your site for these search queries.

Google Adsense if another option but it can quickly burn through your money with little or nothing in return. Some people seem to have great success with it though.
Forums such as this are also a great source of free advertising and for contact with potential customers.

Web hosting is a hard business, but if you do your best to get the word out about your services, sooner or later(could be months if your starting from nothing) good things will start to happen.

Well i guess we can all agree SEO in the hosting field is very very difficult and expensive which is usually ruled out when it comes to smaller companies.
We use a lot of banner ads on forums and blogs however always make sure its not spammy and not all over the place as that has proven to bring less customers. instead we focus on a minimalist design which shows all information needed.

I also very much like the idea of forum advertising which I'm planning to get more into in a short while.

Normally giving big discounts like 25% or 50% really attracts customers. It's worth to make plan according to your expenses before giving this much of discounts
