I've been test advertising on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest, and have found commercial value (buying intent) to be highest on Pinterest.

This seems reasonable to me, since I believe ...

Most people are on Facebook to interact with other people, not necessarily businesses.
Most Twitter users are interested in following popular or famous persons, not necessarily businesses.
Most Pinterest users are pinning images of products, often like a 'wishlist'.

That's not a scientific explanation by any means, just my own thoughts, which may be fallacious.

Hi @Tim Dini
you make great points there, we do most of our social media through twitter as it allows for fast way to bring news to our customers (mostly used for the linking with WHMCS).
We do not have a strong social media presence however are planning to advertise much more for it.

Kind Regards

Exactly and I tried around $80 for any ad campaigns there but according to my thought, Facebook ad is not effective unless you have any specialial niches to advertise there or just using ad for increasing likes on your fan page.

Twitter is a decent social network, you could do wrong way, if you are following to this way. You need follow and interact with people in same niche.
Most Pinterest users are pinning images of products, often like a 'wishlist'.
I have Pinterest but I used Google+ instead for marketing purpose.

I am using Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Google plus and Instagram for advertising my sites

For me, Google plus and Twitter are best sources for driving traffic to my sites for free. Facebook ad didn't work for me.

What niche was it that you were promoting on Pinterest?

I see a lot of health & beauty products being promote on Pinterest as majority of the traffic is female oriented. I personally have never has success getting sales from Twitter, but Facebook has always worked like a charm for me.

I've tried FaceBook ads on another company I worked on, but I would just say the conversion ratio was pretty poor. But maybe it's all about getting the brand online :).

Same to me, I only use Facebook ads in any cases and purposes, it really doesn't help increasing traffic for my sites.
If we buy Facebook ads just to increase likes for fan pages then like we are buying likes to support Facebook. I am sure Facebook has an algorithm to limit number of reaches on fan pages nowadays thus it didn't work effectively like before.

I never tried advertising on Twitter and Pinterest but I'm an active advertiser on Facebook. As my experience with Facebook advertising I gained a lot of traffics and subscribers. Facebook advertisement is depended on your niche and I used Facebook pages to generate traffics for my blogs and other websites. It's important what type of niche is more eye-catching for audience to respond. I think I'm satisfied with Facebook advertising and I'm gonna continue with it for my future campaigns too.
