Does anyone use VPS or dedicated servers from online.net? it is a good service to have a try?

I don't know but they are require extra cost for setup, can I request to setup hosting by myself and without paying extra cost?

Hello,

Online.net -> Scaleway.com are the same company.
Yes good service, but setup fees are really expensive and Intel C2750 are really slow as CPU.
You should buy a good VPS instead a small dedicated like that. And with online.net if the bandwith is really good, it's always in "burst" mode. No guarantee to get 2.5GBps all the time ^^

If you want to try it, go to scaleway as you can pay your server per hour.

I agree with you, and understand totally people who pay too much for their hosting but have more than support ticket if there is a problem.
With scaleway I have "loose" the control of a vps. No way to stop it, no way not delete it and no way to connect to it. It has taken 3 days to get support and to delete it.

For a personal use it's okay, but online.net/scaleway are not ready for production

Hi @Aaron Lavers
You see cheap services like the one you mentioned above or OVH may provide you with the same hardware as almost 80% of other hostings but the support is mostly so bad that you will choose to leave in less than a month unless the monthly cost is very important to you.

Always check how the support is before you order because except the extra features like free daily backups or DDOS protection all of hosting providers provide more or less the same specs.

One other thing to look out for is if they over sell. issue with VPS and mainly shared hosting is that some companies over sell one of their servers so they can gain more profit. this is not just bad for you but for everyone else on that server.

Set up cost?

Well, the first thing you should ask yourself is whether you can set up the server on your own. There are many hosts which gives you the option to do it by yourself or pay them to do it for you. Much of the process of setting up a server is automated. Like, you upload a script and the script gets everything done for you.

So, my suggestion is to shop around a bit more. I am not saying anything in favour of or against the company you have looked at. It's just my nature not to pay anything upfront for a company which is an unknown quantity to me.

There are many companies which allow you to try their services for a short period of time, for free. You can find them by asking Uncle Google.

I don't think it is difficult to setup a server today, if we don't know how to do, there are many sysadmins out there and you can have their service by paying costs for managing your server.
The problem is you will trust them to manage your server or not, that depends on your checks, should go with reputed hosting comapanies

Google sometimes does not helps, you can find reviews about a hosting company via it but they can be fake reviews which created by their marketing team. So, the best way is as you suggested, try them to know if it is suitable to our requirements. But Online.net seems didn't provide free or trial service on their dedicated servers. If no, I could get some.
