I am wanting to install a new function for my hosting that wanted to be notified anytime there are new files created or added into directories on my hosting.

Is there a tool that can do this already? Or a shell script?

It would be great if the results could be emailed as well.

Are you using a control panel of any type? Cpanel? Direct Admin? May want to check out http://www.configserver.com/

Hi OneDavney,

You could use Codeguard to alert you when new files or directories are created. Although it's primarily backup software, it can be used to track changes, too.

You would have to sign up for a plan (or find a host that offers Codeguard as a service) but it is relatively cheap and it gives you peace of mind, knowing all of your files and databases are backed up to the cloud, as well.

Why need to find hosting plans that offering Codeguard?

Can we have it by installing as an add-ons?

Could you share any info about Codeguard and how to use it?

Hi Chris,

You don't have to buy a web hosting plan that includes Codeguard but it could potentially be cheaper than buying a separate Codeguard plan.

I'm not sure what you mean by installing it as an add-on? If you use Wordpress, Codeguard have recently released a Wordpress plugin that you can use.

Once you sign up to the Codeguard service, you set up a SFTP connection to your files and databases and then the backups start getting taken and uploaded to the cloud. Every day, you can receive notifications if any files have been changed. You can see a history of what changes are made to your website in the Codeguard dashboard. At any point, should your website become defaced or perhaps you just need to recover one file for whatever reason, you can choose to restore your site from a backup, download it as a zip or just restore selected files. For more information, check out their website here

Trust that helps!
