To me, a .net always looks like the company couldn get the .com, but it is very possible that I am part of an older generation and the newer generations simply do not care about it since there are so many domain extensions available. Just look at forumweb.hosting. Who would have thought right, yet here were are.

I've always believed that .com domain were better for seo, but perhaps I'm wrong about that. That being said, I still only use .com domains. I have my own methods for finding easy-to-remember, domains with my main keyword, and as others have said, you'll get more money if you sell. Also, I think visitors have more confidence in the site when they see a .com; I know I do. I always have some hesitation when I'm about to visit a website and it's .net. Maybe, it's just me though.

It doesn't really matter. If organization then sure try to get .org but anything else is personal preference.

Both of these domains look similar to me, and they also look trusted. So if its .com or .net domain, i can get any from as people trusts them.

That's true, many people do like to trust domains that use a .com or .net over some of the less likely used domain extensions but that trust can be the cause of problems. Trust is not something that should be given away on the internet these days based on what extension a website's domain has.

Any sort of extension that isn't a .com must emphasize the extension in advertising. Otherwise, as people have noted on this thread, a lot of people will accidently look for the .com. For instance, the websites JTQ.net and JTQ.biz must use JTQ.net and JTQ.biz respectively when advertising the name. On the other hand, JTQ.com can possibly just mention JTQ as the name.

With so many new TLDs coming in the Market, their are more options opening everyday. I am sure public mentality will change and slowly everyone will start accepting other TLD extensions once you learn how to create a online brand out of it.

.com domain name TLD will always be my first preference. but If I cant get a .com then the next option will be .net. I dont think there is any difference between the two as long as you the seo done correctly.

.com is the most popular extension - you just need to look to somewhere like the ICANN registration data to see that .com registrations far outweigh those of .net or .org - but it's up to you as to what you want to register.

A lot of hosting providers like to also register the .net variant of their domain to use for things other than their main web site, like name servers, to use as the hostnames for their servers, etc.

While the domain extension *shouldn't* impact SEO, I always try to grab the .com as *most* people will type in the .com by default.

There is a classification of domains. They rate them top level domains and non-top level. You might want to search google on that.

The domain .net was originally intended for organizations involved in networking technologies, such as Internet service providers and other infrastructure companies. This immediately sounds technical for most. while .com is the basic or generic type. Can go for any kind of website you wish to.

In almost most cases it doesn't really matter which domain are you going to use. But let us consider what are these domains for. Domains ending with .com are usually intended to be used for commercial businesses. Domains ending with .net are usually intended for networking services and mostly internet service providers while domains ending with .org are usually intended for organizations. But if in instances that these domains won't be available you can always use which ever is available. The important thing is you are able to start up.

Though, I can't talk about the seo implications of these extensions, but I believe the .com domains are better than others. To many people, .com literally means internet and so, they attach .com to every website.

Com is very common and net is not that common. But they are just the same. Whenever the com is no longer available you can use the net. Whenever the net is not available the com also is available. You will just choose for it. That is not a big deal for SEO.

Actually as far as I know, .com represents "commercial" while .net represents "network". .com is used for business sites, while .net was used for service providers. But nowadays .net is used for all sites. So, having .com or .net wouldn't actually make a difference. But I'd prefer .com, it's basically the most common extension.
