Why I failed with Facebook Ad?

Hi everyone,
Could you tell me why I failed with Facebook Advertising (promoting posts, increase likes) for my fan page?
how to succeed with it, I tried $45 for FB advertising but no more likes or at least 1 leads I get back. what are reasons?
I promoted web hosting offers, IM products and ebook offers on FB.

It seems to me that you're direct selling on FB which based on my own experience does not work... But that also makes sense as when you're on FB you are there to socialize with your buddies and not to buy stuff...

The last thing you want whilst on FB are ads which are screaming for you to buy a product... and the ads that do that - just spend a few minutes reading through the comments and you'll see many voicing their annoyance that such ads should be removed from their wall.... So you need to take a different approach ....

In addition it looks like you spend a total of $45 dollars on multiple campaigns, spread over days... So that's really, really spreading yourself thin in so far as its not going to get much exposure at all.... Personally I would be spending at least that much per day on a given campaign...

My best advice is to use FB to collect leads in return for a free report.... As then you're maximizing your investment for the long term... With captured leads you can then build a relationship with offering great advice, tips etc and of course promoting offers... If you're aiming for likes and shares - then your ads need to be fun or informative!!! For example a quizz or a helpful article and repeat - not trying to sell stuff directly! - but again that's my personal experience and as such I'm interested to hear of any success stories where direct selling on FB does work noting t-spring campaigns seems to be of such a case...
