What is the most convenient hashing method to be used to hash passwords?

You can use MD5, SHA1 and SHA256 to hash password, they are designed to be very fast and efficient for web programmers.
For example, use md5('your_password') or sha1('your_password').

There is also "hash" to support a multitude of algo's. php.net has a list.
