What’s your opinion on the increasing reliance on 'green' hosting solutions. Are they truly sustainable, or just marketing fluff?

At this point is still fluff as you say. Though there has been some improvements on this sector. It still has not risen to a level where it is truly sustainable. There needs to be more studying to be done and the technology needs to get caught up.
