I recently took over doing purchasing for a company that has a website with 100,000 weekly visitors. The company pays a dedicated server provider that charges $850 per quarter. I keep hearing that this price is too high but I don't really know.

Good price or bad price? I'm just not knowledgeable about these things. Can you please help?

Here are the specs:

Gen4 Ded Self-Managed Linux - 4C/32 GB - SSD - 1 quarter(s)

4 CPU cores
1.23% / 100%
23%

RAM
7.36GB / 32GB
4%

Disk space - RAID 1
20GB / 500GB

AlmaLinux 8 (cPanel)

1000 mb/sec is port speed

Bandwidth is not measured

Server is in USA

That price is really huge considering the servers specs you mentioned...

What should I be getting at that price? What should be my priorities when pricing these out? If we got 1 million weekly visitors, how would that change the specs? Sorry for asking basic things. I'm a total novice.

It is recommended to directly choose a physical server, the performance can meet your needs, the cost is about $150, support 24/7 technical guidance

Actually you could get fantastic deals from 50-120/month in EU, even in US ie:

OVH.com/Soyoustart.com reliablesite.net and many more which is way cheaper and 100% better configs comparing for what you're paying right now. We aren't really in 2000 year in which that config and price may be ok in that time, but not in 2024 though...

now you can compare:

CPU cores
RAM
DISK
Price.

Now imagine if your current server can hold 100.000 visitors per week with 4 cores 32GB ram, how much visitors would hold the:
AMD RYZEN 9 7950X
16 cores /32 threads
128 GB DDR5 RAM
2TB NVMe disk
$120/month which per quarter would be $360 and is triple or more the resources. Or even better

Intel Xeon Dual GOLD 6138 @ 2.00GHz (40 Cores / 80 Threads)

  • 256 GB DDR4 Memory RAM
  • 2TB U.2 NVMe Storage
$110 month..

:)

Hope that help.

$850/quarter for a dedicated server seems high for your company's website (100k weekly visitors). Low CPU/RAM/disk usage suggests a cheaper option like a VPS might be better. Research average costs & consider a VPS plan before committing!

You may want to compare other server with comparable hardware see what the price is. It should be your base for pricing the server you are using now or purchased.

Hello Jroybrauch,

I must say you should contact any IT infrastructure management provider to get an accurate answer for more you can contact at redacted-by-mods!

Hello, I don’t see any problem comparing your characteristics with the characteristics of other hosting providers, figure out which characteristics are important for you and what additional services are important to you, as soon as you find (I’m sure you will find) conditions that satisfy you, you can carefully little by little transfer your resource

Damn! As mentioned previously, that's way too much for those resources. I am not sure about the US market, but you can get a far better server for much less in Europe.

Maybe will be better give this job to ai? You must write correct question for AI and you will take correct answer with conditions, prices and rules for each hosting company. This will solve for you too much mechanical movements and you don't must spend any money and time for this, I wish you good luck

I found out that we have to use a company that has 24/7 telephone support and the company has to have offices in the United States, so that eliminates a lot of the options discussed above. I got a quote from Bluehost. Who else should I be considering?
