There are some features I think that should be included in any hosting plan and would be surprised to not find. For example- Availability of Backup. User friendly support website.

To start a discussion we can think of a real time support where we don't need to call on toll free numbers or open support ticket every time. Just launch a video available on support website and get your queries resolved. Is it ok not to offer real time support these days, and if not, then is it still a selling and advertising point?

Mostly of hosting companies are using WHMCS billing and support system which is user friendly, except e few big hosts companies that they use custom build in. There are plenty of the hosts that will mention that the backup is included/excluded.
As per video available, this takes time, and not all of the issues are the same so no, you can't include nor predict the issues in one video. But the best one is to have a livechat support where you can communicate in realtime and try to fix the issues. I don't see any issue with ticketing/emails too, as long as the support is quick in responses.

I think most hosting providers have a support system website that is easy and friendly for users. Just imaging, when your site has issues, you can make a call or send a ticket asking to resolve it asap, you receive the response right away then, issues are fixed, even it happens at the midnight. The point is 24x7 real-time support is necessary, it is much efficient than you try to fix it by yourself by watching videos. Furthermore, not all issues are the same, it's quite hard to put it into some videos, but we do have our own blog and knowledge base that can guide our users on how to fix some common problems.

I don't think backup feature is necessary for a shared hosting or VPS, you can do that with your hosting panel easily, that doesn't need to include into feature list of a web hosting service.

Free SSL should be a standard, I'd be very worried about any host that doesn't offer free SSL through Let's Encrypt or Zero SSL.

Looking for a Web hosting provider seems like a difficult job. You think you've found a provider, but then another one deals some Web hosting features a little different than the first provider. So you have to choose what to do. Several features you won't even use. A Web host provider will add a lot of features to your package to make it enticing. Instead of talking about all the features, I will discuss which ones are significant. If you have a simple website, you can combine these features with a cheap web hosting package and be okay. Below are the most important features.

1. Disk Space
2. Bandwidth
3. Customer Service
4. Email Services
5. Site Statistics
6. Reliability

These features, in my opinion, are features you should always be standard for a basic website.

I don't think that most of those can really be called 'features' they are just things that it is impossible not to have.

Email and statistics are the two that could possibly be considered as optional features.

What exactly do you mean by statistics, are we just talking about things like bandwidth in/out, etc. or are you thinking of something more like detailed site visitor analytics?

i think one of the best features of a web hosting services will be a Layer 7 DDoS Protection and Layer 4 too.


Another good things is a automatic daily or monthly backup.

We back everything up every 12 hours, and once a day we sync those backups to another datacentre.

How often you absolutely need to backup a particular site probably depends on the site content. If it is a completely static information page then you don't need to back it up particularly often because nothing will change between backups. On the other hand, if it is something that is updated with new content every day, a blog, store, directory, news site, etc. then the question becomes how much content are you willing to lose if something went wrong near the end of the backup period.
