Can I use a tool or way to check and find out which elements are making my website load slowly? Any guides?

You can use Google's Pagespeed Insights to check the speed of your site and then it will give you recommendations as to what is loading slow and why. Then you can take a call on what kind of a website you have and how you can make it even better basis the platform and hosting.

I think ads and unoptimised images are the two biggest culprits why some sites either hang or load incredibly slowly. For the former reason, display advertising is undeniably effective in monetizing high-traffic websites. However, this should not come at the expense of performance or user experience. Allowing too much advertising to slow down your website is a bad idea! The increase of HTTP requests is the most evident effect of overloading your website with adverts. For the latter, While loading, high-resolution photographs might require a lot of bandwidth. Uploading bigger photos and then scaling them down might increase the size of your web page needlessly, making it difficult to load.

You can check your website loading speed using Pingdom speed test. The result will identify what about a webpage is fast, slow, too big, and so on. Btw are you using WordPress for your site?

Google developers tools enables us to check what is causing the issue and helps us to fix the loading issues. site loading issue can be resolve by enabling CDN, resizing images, fixing server issue. etc ...

Hello @Chris Worner you can use google page speed light to check your website speed as they will give you the result as well as the links which makes problem to load your site.

I recommend Fiddler for this kind of thing. You can see a graph of the load of all the elements on the page. And the Chrome Speed Tracer extension lets you pinpoint which loads are taking a long time, and other things.
