VPS 16GB of RAM or Dedicated server 16GB of RAM?

I am using a hosting 8GB RAM and sometimes it was overloaded hence I am searching for a new hosting provider with 16GB of RAM and CPU 4 cores, but I am confusing between a VPS 16GB of RAM or Dedicated server 16GB of RAM with same price. Which one is better? VPS 16GB of RAM or Dedicated server 16GB of RAM? please share your thoughts!

The dedicated server is and always will be faster. Since in a VPS you do not have full access to a core. The cores on a VPS are virtual and you are not allowed to fully utilized the physical core. There are settings that reduce CPU time and CPU unites that will reduce your performance significantly compared to a dedicated server where you will have full access to the CPU cores. The VPS will be cheaper in most cases since its in inferior product compared to a dedicated server.

I would go with dedicated servers but if its disk is HDD, you may consider VPS instead.

Both VPS and dedicated server are excellent services. But the main thing you need to understand why you need it. For regular sites and various applications, VPS will be enough. A dedicated server is bought by those who know exactly why he needs it and know at least at the basic level how to administer a dedicated server.

By the way, I want to say that we always offered our customers dedicated servers. But now, we are almost ready to launch powerful and not expensive VPS on the market. With very fast NVMe disks and a high-frequency processor, with vCPUs up to 4.2 GHz (like a CPU i7-7700, did you imagine what kind of power on VPS it will be for a low price?

What kind of a virtualization technology is used for the virtual server you consider and compare with the bare-metal dedicated server? This is an important question, you should not ignore. If it is any OS virtualization, you'd better go for the physical dedicated server.

Dedicated would be best. It provides with more resources (i.e. ram, CPU, storage, etc...)

Depends on the full specs - A Dedicated Server with 16GB RAM, old CPU and HDD isn't going to perform as well as a 16GB RAM VPS on modern hardware with SSD/NVMe drives. Dedicated would be more the way to go at those sort of specifications, but you need to consider the other hardware as well, not just the RAM.

Depends on your budget. Dedicated may be "better", but there are still good providers they don't oversell their VPSs and such VPS costs less then a dedicated box.

If you go with KVM VPS, you could get the same “dedicated server” level of performance, but containerized virtualization is often oversold.

So, between OpenVZ (or similar) VPS and dedicated server, the dedicated server will almost always be the best choice for performance considerations.

Hi BillEssley, I don't know if budget is your constraint, but assuming that it isn't I would go for a dedicated server but only after understanding my requirements. If 16 GB RAM is what you are looking for I would go with an SSD and not HDD for the simple reason that I prefer flash storage without many moving parts.

Performance-wise, dedicated wins because unlike VPS it won't share resources, and secondly, as someone rightly mentioned, what is your exact hosting requirement because both machines are good in their own way. A VPS with 16GB RAM will work wonders if you are hosting a new site that is functioning on VMs that have adequate (or should I say limited) performance levels. On the other hand, the dedicated server with 16GB RAM and other resources will boost your website's performance.
