Hi All,

I'm considering a move from my current VPS hosting solution to a cloud-based hosting provider. I'm looking at about a $20 a month savings if I switch (which is attractive), but I also want to increase security and performance. Right now my VPS solution utilizes LiteSpeed and I have my own CDN network I pay for. I have decent performance, but security is always a concern. I'm very used to cPanel and have always used it, but I'm looking for a cloud-based environment that provides easy one-click backups, staging environments, etc. I came across Cloudways and they seem impressive. Does anyone have experience with them? Right now I have my email hosted on the VPS, so I would need to move that as well. I believe they offer Rackspace Cloud email hosting as an addon.

Curious what your thoughts are on cloud-based hosting providers and if they really do provide better performance and security.

Thank you for any insight you can give me!

Hello @SwiftModders,
About the performance and the security, there isn't so much difference between VPS hosting and Cloud hosting (in most of case, you will not be able to know if your virtual server is hosted on a single host or on a real cluster of servers). I'm not saying you will not have better performance with cloud hosting, but it will mostly depend on the hosting provider (the same way than with a VPS).

For me, the main difference is the billing period. Cloud hosting billing is based on hourly basis, when VPS hosting billing is based on monthly basis.

It completely depends on your business if your business is suitable for a cloud. Some blogger prefers bother VPS and cloud as a Good and fastest web host options.
But I respect your decision which move from VPS to cloud. I hope that cloud will help in growth of your business.
Because cloud is far better than other options due to its powerful uptown features.
We also suggest Linux cloud and windows cloud to our clients.

Cloud is similar to VPS hosting server as it too is based on virtualization. But of course, Cloud has better features, improved uptime architecture and advanced capabilities of web hosting. Cloud is an improved approach for managing hostel virtual servers.

Benefits of moving from VPS to Cloud:

Better Network Uptime: Cloud combines all the physical servers into one network, creating a centralized pool of computing resources. This leads to faster access to data by the end users.

Flexibility: With a cloud, the user only pays for the resources that he uses i.e. pay-per-use. The user is free to choose storage, CPU, RAM, memory and other computing resources.

Choice of Operating Systems: Another advantage of moving from VPS to cloud is that the user can choose the best suiting operating system.

32 bit or 64 bit: The user is free to choose whether to go for 32 bit or 64 bit.

VPN services: The user is also allowed to increase the levels of enterprise security with Virtual private network with Cloud.

As per your requirement why don't to try AWS a leading cloud service provider? They offer 1 year free subscription next if you are satisfied you may upgrade to purchased plans.

Hi @SwiftModders,

If you're looking for more performance and security, moving to a Cloud service might be intersting as you can easily modify ressources in this environment.
Furthermore in some Cloud systems like our Public Cloud you have a hand over the network, over a virtual router that you can setup firewall rules to protect all you VMs deployed behind this virtual router.

it can be great idea because most of entrepreneurs are preferring cloud hosting plan to build up and boost up their online business. You have to think and decide carefully before paying money to the hosting provider.

Hi,

Look at the flexibility, the cloud platform offers. It provides quick, efficient, higher uptime and on-demand access to a number of computing resources like applications, networks, servers, etc. What's more, compared to maintaining your own physical VPS hosting, cloud hosting is indeed generally an affordable option. Moreover, businesses that depend on web and app hosting, and have the vision to grow will rely largely on cloud hosting services. In addition, It also allows users to avail the cloud service within a redundant server environment meaning that your site will be virtually using the multiple server’s resources, you can simply be transferred to another server and are provided with the ability to scale server resources on demand avoiding issues of your site going offline from an unexpected traffic surge.

Web hosting, data back-ups, security, and maintenance – who cares about these things? Real business and marketing will happen only at the forefront that is assisted with a smart cloud hosting platform. Therefore, I believe your decision of switching from VPS hosting to cloud hosting is a good idea in case if you have high traffic volumes to your popular sites.

In a nutshell, it can be said that it makes sense shifting to the cloud hosting if you have the following circumstances:

  • Your sites generally receive huge traffic volume and you need the ability to scale your hosting meeting growing traffic needs without having to migrate all files to the new server
  • And if you have a large online store or eCommerce website which requires high uptime, fast page loading speed, better flexibility, high availability, and better scalability.
Hope you find it useful!
