What would be your reaction when clients say as below?

Client: Upgrade my hosting plan to high-end plan at free of cost or refund money
he basically had hosting with starter plan. this was his last ticket with us.

[Note: I would like to hear your reaction on it only. We have refunded his money. due to we don't wish to entrain such clients with us]

I am not a hosting provider but if that was my client, I will refund money if he is in trial period of my service. If not, explain him to let him know about terms of services that he/she should know.

We did it already. he was trying to get a free upgrade with refund strategy.

Probably not a client you would want.
Refund the money and move on, a bad client like that is not worth it, IMO.

"Depends" doesn't exist here! Every company has his price and resource to a package, which a client has a way to choose which one fit his requirements. It's the same as you rent a one room and there are three of them available, so you are saying that the client first take the one room and then force owner to give other three roms for the price at one or refund?What kind of depends are you talking about?! For such customers best bet is godaddy or hostgator where the support don't give a f**k about them.

Your terms and conditions matter here.
Had you mentioned regarding any upgrade or refund before he ordered?

If any refund or upgrade is not committed to him, he is not entitled to ask for it.
