I am going to add sliders for my websites but I think it can make annoys for everyone when visiting my site because they like animations and can make everyone distraction to website content. What do you think about sliders on websites? should I add them to my website or not?

Hi,

Slides are pretty important. Especially for a corporate website. They show what your website is all about. You don't want to have only text on your main page, and you don't want boring text on the upper part of your website—the first thing your users will see when they enter your site. They can see the main idea of the website with a slider. You can place beautiful photos, you can show your work, how your store looks like if you're a physical shop, you can show off your work, prototypes, portfolio, everything.

Just make sure you put no more than 4-5 sliders, and reduce their size. JPEG them, make them no more than 250 KB in size (every slide should be no more than 250-300 KB), and the 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 resolutions are the most optimal ones.

Corporate means for a business, a company. Not a blog or whatever. Also putting a 10 or 20 sliders on a website will have the same effect as chumping 20 burgers down your throat at once. You want a fast loading site, not a tardigrade. Also no one will watch those tons of moving images. Keep em short for your own good.

Ask if you have more questions.

Personally I do not care for sliders on corporate websites especially if you have information that you have to get back and forth to. This is such a timely question that it feels very deja vu- right now I am working on a corporate site that is suppose to work like an app but in reality was once a standard database sort of site. The developers decided to update the way the site works and now there is sliders from all angles on top of data tabs across the top, The end result is a bit of a hot mess- mostly because of so many sliders. There is literally a slider in every directions and drop down sliders within sliders.

For example- in order for me to see a work item I have to engage a slider on the bottom that informs me a work item exists- but then I have to open a memo tab on the top to see what the service discussion is about to make the correction. Then I may need to slide open a customer tab on the left to slide open a second slider on the name to get the address and phone number only to have to close all that to look at the account history which is a tab on the top again. It is far from smooth to use because every single thing I need to do requires me to click out of the slider and to another tab or nestled button to open yet another window.

Sliders can be a cool option if you have limited data, but there is a point when it might be better to limit the usage to very select areas and functions. Before you even think of adding that slider, my advice would be to map the average user path thru the site and make sure that the placement of the slider is such that is does not impede easy transition from one point of information to another, especially if the design is to close that view once a link is clicked.

Hi!
Personally, I'm not all that fond of sliders on websites. While they can look nice, I think that more often than not they end up looking clunky and unnecessary, and if someone's internet connection is slow it can be the difference between a user spending a lot of time on your site and a user immediately navigating away.

I agree with Valkyrie's points about user path! I don't think sliders are as intuitive as other ways you could be displaying information. Plus, I don't know how important mobile users are to you but I think it's worth mentioning that a lot of mobile users prefer vertical scrolling or infinite scrolling.

Yes I think this can happen with some users who are using low internet connections but nowadays that is hard to happen because the connection is improved more and websites are running on fast hosting.

If done correctly, I don't see why they would distract or annoy your visitors at all. If anything, it can make visiting your website a richer and more memorable experience. However I do agree with what other posters have written, slides are in fact an inconvenient way to display long pieces of information. And you also have to take into account the limitations of mobile devices. Though I do also wonder how many mobile users actually visit websites instead of only apps. Personally, I mostly only do the latter when on my phone.

I like sliders on websites and i saw them appear on almost modern websites today. In my personal opinion, it only should apply on some parts of websites if possible, some cases can make visitors distract.

Sliders in websites are really important. You can use sliders to promote your page in an unique and entertaining way. Viewers and visitors in your website can easily know what your website is all about by just seeing the sliders. If I'm going to make a website, surely I will add some sliders. Simple yet attractive. Some people don't want sliders because they lose focus and pay their attention to the sliders. But that's what the web owners and content creators want, to attract the viewers.

It depends on slider configuration I believe. Some sliders are really badly designed that you can't even choose between slides so need to wait to see again. However, generally sliders are good. They allow webmasters to use space efficiently.

Sliders are really good if configured correctly. You can make your sliders creative and entertaining but don't overuse it. Too many sliders can make user confuse and hard to find what they are looking for in your website.

In my opinion, it depends on how you implement the said slider. It may be an enterprise website, but there are ways to make the sliders help with the user experience. But I guess the only thing that I would say that is everyone is pointing out in this thread is "don't over use it". Make sure that the way you interpret it, is something that would be useful to the user. Maybe for example, like on giving an overview of the website.

For blogging websites, it'll depend on the theme of your website. For example if you are making a photo blog site that may be used as a portfolio in the future. I think Sliders would really help you showcase your products without clumping your homepage or a page with hundreds of photos. Again with the right implementation.

I hope this helps.

Sliders are very cool if done properly (as any other things obviously). But overloading the website with them won't be a good thing either. You should have an average amount in my personal opinion. :)

I had seen a website without photos using sliders, now that was odd and uncomfortable.

Honestly, I like sliders on websites. However, some viewers like it, some are not.
As for me, having slider on website looks professional and it shows the information I need to see like the overview of the website.
But of course, it depends on the quality of the slider. If they are using high-quality images and essential information then no reason to dislike it.

I personally love sliders, it shows information about what the website is into above the fold, and it's easy to manage per season/event.

I honestly don't pay attention to sliders if they don't contain things that interest me.
For example, I hate sliders when they just show images. Why? Just to make the site look fancier?
Another example where I like sliders, is when contain the newest topics or announcements. Then I get a quick look at what's new and I won't be able to miss it, because sliders are pretty visible.

Yes, I like Sliders if these are light weight + informative, If you will place only images in sliders then they will just increase your page size.

In some cases, sliders can be very useful. Especially if you promote a product on your website. In general, if designed properly, I think sliders can be really useful and even engaging to your website's visitors. Just make sure that there aren't too many sliders and that users can switch them easily. In other words, make them user-friendly. When using a slider be sure to optimize your images in order to avoid the problem with the slow page loading.
