In my experience, if any information regarding domain order dates/owner information from a 3rd party source is required one of the best tools for such checks are https://who.is/ Not only that this tool shows the WHOIS information, it also includes DNS information if needed.

I prefer to use Linux command line. I can do a whois, nslookup dig, etc usually before one of those sites loads.

Though I prefer command line primarily to check such things, I rely on http://dnstools.ws/ as well sometimes

I have to admit that domaintools.com is very effective to check domain info while whois of Godaddy is another way to check domain info for domains that hosted at Godaddy.

I am using Whois DomainTools, It shows almost all kinds of whois information about the domain registrar and registrant etc.

It is. You generally have to install something. CentOS would be jwhois. Windows would be Sysinternals.
NSLookup and Dig don't, though. Which I use mostly for lookups.

Good morning,

I prefer to use whois in the CLI but with some domains name extensions, registrant details are not available on. So, I have to check online. I use viewdns.info for that.

Hi there,

Below, you can find a listing of all the whois lookup sites:

1) Whois.com
2) Who.is
3) Whois.domaintools.com
4) Whois.icann.org/en
5) Rankank.com
6) Mxtoolbox.com
7) Ultratools.com/whois
8) Godaddy.com/whois

Whois.domaintools.com is probably the most popular one as others mentioned. However, these days many websites use CDNs like Cloudflare, which means that the Whois websites access the cashed content.
