Template vs coding from scratch in 2018?

5 years ago I tried to make a WP template from scratch but today I am tending to buying existed themes on theme marketplace because it saves my time and I can have published websites quickly. What about you? what do you prefer buying templates or coding from scratch in 2018?

I prefer to buy Wp template. The cost is around $40 - $70 for a good theme or template with life time of updates. So why to build one using thousands of dollars.

Yeah but sometime if template is not available, then there is no choice but to build it from scratch

Buying theme templates is definitely a lot easier and more convenient than coding from scratch. There are a lot of themes to choose from that are ready to use and with added customization features.

For those who are after quick conversion results, I recommend using Thrive Themes, with its custom features. For sales-focused content, it also has an added conversion tool that creates urgency for customers, the Thrive Leads, which is already incorporated in the whole Thrive Themes package. Plus, the whole Thrive Themes package has a very easy and comprehensive environment. That's way better than coding from scratch.

Quality themes all the way. I love Genesis WP themes. They are pricey, but well worth the investment. Clean code, responsive, and ultra-fast. Heat to StudioPress for more info.

I know that this is an old-school answer, but I really enjoy coding from scratch.
It's just that feeling where you have the power to create literally anything, for example, I remember when I used bootstrap, in order to center a nav-bar I had to override some of the CSS styles and when I did that everything else got messed up... So I prefer not using something like that, but if I'm short on time I'll always get a template or use bootstrap if necessary.

In 2018 I gotta say wordpress and templates are just better.

Sure knowing html,css,js is great,but it demands tons of work,and for the amount of time and energy you spend doing that its just not worth it.

WordPress just saves so much time,its easy to use,has a lot of customization and in the end of the day its as efficient as coding from scratch.
For 95% of websites WordPress is superior,cause you dont even need to know codes,and if you do its just easier for you to make changes.
Also their help team or customer support is really great and they are usually willing to help you with any issues you have.

So my recommendation is WP,its easier to use as a moderator as well

We normally recommend our clients to buy a theme by checking the demo but if this doesn't fulfill the requirements then start from the scratch.

If I had the time I'd prefer creating my own templates, for number of reasons; such as I know where things are, I can create it as close to as my imagination, and I get the sense of pride when I create something because it's like if your child is out playing ball and they hit a homerun, so you nudge the guy next to you saying that's my child! (Hope you get what I mean) Youre proud of your work. But like I said about if I had time, creating your own templates can take a lot of time to make. So I'd most likely just find a good template and just make changes to it.

But don't get me wrong I've seen a lot of good quality templates out there, and cheers to anyone who makes them!
