There are tons of web hosting companies. I've seen a lot of ads online. Are all web hosts just the same?

Many hosts are the same but the key these days is to be different and to try to offer something different that others are unable to offer. I personally try to be different and to stand out from others.

They are not the same at all. Most might be using the same Billing software (WHMCS) or the same CP (CPanel), but their quality of service can be very different, both in terms of hardware and support.
There is also the obvious difference in pricing and the size of the business. (My experience is that smaller businesses have better customer support)
Some Hosting businesses might also function unofficially. (Without a legal company)

NO definitely not, Large company has more complex web hosting than small company.why? because the process more complicated than the small companies which only has few functions.

Not all web hosting companies are the same. Maybe most of them are quite similar in terms of the types of services they offer, but there are companies that are worse or better than the rest. They may differ in terms of many factors including available payment methods, billing cycle period, period of money-back guarantee, the percentage of the uptime guarantee, the type of support the host offers, the free additions to any plan, etc. Many companies differ mainly in their plans price some hosts offer quite expensive plans, while other offer more affordable ones. The plans also vary in terms of disk space, RAM and so on. In addition to their plans, some hosts offer free SSL certificates, CDN or website builders, while others don't. Also, another significant difference is that some companies use solid state drives, while other use hard disk drives.

I know some companies are buying hosting companies to expand their services offered. For example, a US based company bought an established Asian hosting company so that they can have customer in Asia as well. That is very common nowadays, so If you are asking are they the all the same? some of them are actually just under 1 umbrella so it's possible that they are just the same.

Each hosting provider has their own features, costing, support service and all other things. I don't think that all hosts are same. You can can compare every host by below features -

1. Quality of support service
2. Minimum time of answering the query
3.Technical resolution by the support team
4. Server uptime and downtime
5. Total cost
6. Backup facility
7. Addon service provided with the web-hosting service
8. Free CMS provided by the web hosting provider

They're not the same. You'll find multiple hosts that will probably offer the same, but you may want to take a look at your needs and get the host that is better adjusted for them. Depending on location, company's policy, prices, whether is a large or small business, among other factors will determine the quality of the host, but either way it depends on your needs and what you look for within your specific budget.

It depends on what you need from the webhost. E-mail, SEO features, etc. They're all different between different hosts, but the majority do offer the same features of each other and not a lot of them offer unique features. And the ones that do you have to pay a lot for most of the time, so, it's kind of a bad deal depending on what you need.

There are quite a few distinctions when it comes to web hosting companies. Ideally, when you're choosing a web hosting company, you should look for:

-No overselling
-Above 99% uptime
-Live chat support
-Quick ticket support
-Monthly payment plans

Once you are able to look at these attributes of the web hosting companies, you would be able to shortlist the best ones quite easily.

After shortlisting the web hosting company is based on this criteria, it is a good idea to check the reviews of those web hosting companies.

This would actually help you in picking up the best web hosting companies.
