I am purchasing a new VPS and they are asking me this on order page

Hostname
Code:
Servername.youdomain.com
My question is I need a hostname for that? I don't have more domain names to create hostname while my main domain is not pointed to new host. If i use it for hostname, It can cause any problems when poingting my domain DNS to new host?

No issue, you can have the hostname anthing while ordering the VPS. You can update the hostname afterwards. There won't be any issue while pointing your domain to the new host. One you will have the domain name then you can point domain to proper DNS.

Normally you can fill anything in the order process. Afterwards you can change it to the correct value (if necessary) for the purpose you're going to use it.

You don't need a hostname. You can always refer to your VPS address by IP. A hostname is a nickname assigned to the IP address.

But anyway, I still need to have a real hostname to use hosting after that?

You don't need a hostname. You can always refer to your VPS address by IP. A hostname is a nickname assigned to the IP address.
How can I do that? can you give an example?

Can I get hostname from my hosting provider? like this

Code:
server001.myhostingproviderdomain.com
Not sure this will work...?

If you have a DNS manager with your domain provider, the host does not matter. You can create a DNS record pointing to the IP of the VPS you receive:

vps.mydomain.com > 1.1.1.1
mydomain.com> 1.1.1.1

Then, if the VPS is configured properly, the website will load correctly (if you want to host a website in it for example).

It is better to have a valid hostname especially if you are using the server for emails. If you send emails from your server and the hostname is not real valid, some of the receiving parties will bounce thise emails. As long as you have a domain name, what actually preventing you to create a new FQDN for your server? Suppose you have domain.com and your VPS has IP address 1.1.1.1, you can create an FQDN like vps01.domain.com pointing to 1.1.1.1 and set hostname for your VPS as vps01.domain.com... you are all set?
