There are so many different types of font on photoshop. But I can't seem to find a font that makes your banner look attractive yet professional and doesn't look very amateurish. HELP!

It depends on the intention of your banner, a banner for kids can use cartoonish font types but maybe is not so good for a law firm.
You need to narrow down fonts that fit with what you are trying to represent with your banner and then just pick one that works for you.

If you're being paid to design a banner or logo for someone then that decision is or should really be up to them. If you're just testing your design skills out on faux logos? I suggest you use a font that's in-line with the topic of the logo. Or the subject of the design. Whether it be horror, gaming, tech, news, media, etc.

For me when it comes to font style. The simplier the better. Simple always look more elegant and everyone can see and read it better while also considering the font size and style. Arial or impact.

Have you tried to search this "Fonts for logos" on Google.com?

I am sure you will find out more good fonts there so just using a graphic software like Photoshop or Corel draw to import fonts and start using them to make professional logos.

Hope that helped.

Sans Serif Font is one of the best choices for banners and signs because it is the most legible, But most importantly, make sure that you maximize its effectiveness in a few simple ways like determining your target audience, minimizing the use of color then always stick to simplicity and be concise with the message.
