I have to say this site is full of information wow lots of work here, I have been searching the web for weeks, and i see you have to pay for a web hosting and stuff, I went to google and bought a domain name, but now i am setting up an old PC at home and designing my own site and i realize i would like to host it right here> Why cant i do this? I have setup XAMPP and i have that all working I forwarded my IP I know my public IP, I have a DNS IP that doesn't change. I do believe i am missing something else here.? Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Well you can do it, but the real question is will it be cost efficient? Depending on the price of electricity it might be more expensive then a yearly shared hosting plan or small VPS.

Regarding your current setup, did you create A records pointing to your current IP? Is there any firewall which might be blocking port 53?

Well i do have things left on everyday, and yes my electric bill is more than most, so that inst a problem. I have to create a record pointing to what IP, the public or Local Static IP? Then what after that? so your saying a google domain will work, I am so confused on how all this works in ways, I bought the domain, and then I see alot of places wanting you to buy a hosting fee, I just would like to bypass that if i can. I have a router up stairs and the cable modem is down i have the cable modem going through a switch then to the wireless Netgear Router. I can ping my router from the webserver but from the webserver i cant get into the Router. I think i have to wire it strait to the router, that will be my next test. I did already forward the IP though and open port 80

Hosting a website in your house only has disadvantages

1) Power Bills
2) Security issues
3) If Power goes down, your website is down
4) If someone steal your house and your computer, bye bye website
5) no secure at all.

At the prices you can get a hosting plan these days, only for fun you should think about host a website in your home imo.
Good luck!

Thanks for your worries but it will be ok, it seems this place is all about making sales and not helping others figure out how things work. I have computers on at my house 24/7 just because i can
