Learning from a web hosting tutorial and they are guiding me to create name servers likes these forms

ns1.mydomain.com --> IP1
ns2.mydomain.com --> IP2

I want to know if I can create more than 2 nameservers for my hosting? and how if I only use a IP for both nameservers?
Please advice.

Yes, you have the correct idea there. Generally, there are two nameservers with 2 different IP addresses. I wouldn't suggest creating more than 2 nameservers using one IP. I have included the RFC rules for this situation below.

From RFC 1304, section 4.1 (Name Servers - Introduction):

A given zone will be available from several name servers to insure its availability in spite of host or communication link failure. By administrative fiat, we require every zone to be available on at least two servers, and many zones have more redundancy than that.

and how if I create

ns3.mydomain.com --> IP3
ns4.mydomain.com --> IP4

it is possible to create and I can point other domains to a VPS that hosting these nameservers?

Could you clarify? Did you want to point the 3rd and 4th nameservers to a VPS, or the other way around?

Yes beside 1st and 2nd nameservers, I want to create 3rd and 4th nameservers on the VPS and using it for other domains.
It can consider as different IP address for domains if I use 3rd and 4th nameservers pointing to new IPs?

You really do not need more than two name servers

You can use more than two nameservers, no issue. Basically more nameservers are needed in case when one IP address resolving to the nameservers (ns1 nameserver entry) is down then your sites will work on other IP address where your nameserver (ns2 nameserver entry) is pointing.

So you will need to make sure, while adding the nameservers, each entry will resolve to different IPs. Those IP should be resolving to your server only.

Hope this will help you.

I would say have 2 or 3 name servers. Make sure that the servers are hosting on different servers and ideally in different data centres with different providers this will give you redundancy

you can use different nameservers for different servers ( IPs, or servers ), its best to have as many as possible, in case one fails, there is a backup!

Two name servers are more than enough for any website. The only time I can see using more than two dns servers is if your vps provider offers more. Other than that I wouldn't waste your money because its not going to make any difference.

Having just 2 NSs are enough. But if you have more IPs, you can use more NSs. But Just for more name servers, purchasing extra IPs is waste of money. It won't benefit you.

You need at least 2 nameservers address to use them with a domain. Each nameserver should be hosted separately, with a unique IP, to provide redundancy in case of failure.
But almost all servers with cPanel are configured with nameservers on the same host. It's not a correct configuration, but most of users doesn't know what are nameservers.

Then if you want to add other nameservers recors, it require to configure the second server as DNS slave to synchronize all records across hosts.
I agree with VirtuBox, we need at least 2 nameserver for pointing domains to a hosting. Other that that, you can create unlimited nameservers if you have more IPs

If you want to variety some websites on different IPs you can add IP from WHM interface and provides that IP to your websites, by using the same nameservers.
I am wondering how we can create same nameservers with different IPs. :)
