I am considering choosing one of these five companies to host a low-traffic website. I'm curious how the technical support will work and if there will be unexpected costs.

bigscoots
stablehost
siteground
hosterdaddy
hostmantis

They seem to all offer a cost-effective plan for my needs. I narrowed them down mostly by just their advertised plans. Would anyone recommend I choose one or avoid one?

People ask this all the time. You will not know how your service will be until you start using it.
Only way to be safe is choose a provider with a money back promise or even someone willing to give you a free trial so you can make up your mind for yourself.

Well most of the reviews are bogus, either they are from affiliates or got some sort of compensation for posting a review. Best way is to experince the service and support first hand, otherwise check which host fits your requirements better than the rest. Remember there is no such thing as the best provider, there is only the provider that fits to your needs better.

The only ones that come to mind when I look at this are siteground and stablehost. StableHost then I've used before great service and also siteground. I've used slightly in the past also great services that's all I got.

I have talked to Scott over at Bigscoots a couple times. Great guy. Like it's been stated previously, you just have to try it, but assuming they have a money-back guarantee and you are used to keeping your own backups, any of them should be fine for a low traffic site.
