I tried to search .forum and .community domain extension, while .community is opening for registrations then .forum domains are pending release
Has anyone considered using these extensions to start a new forum for yourself? Which extension is better? why?

I have not tried or registered any one of this extension, but .forum looks short with proper keyword if you are willing to develop a forum on it.. for me .community extension is quit long so if I write from e.g webhosting.community it pretty long which can affect SEO, where as Webhosting.forum looks much better.

Anyone that is considering registering either of these at some point will need to take into consideration that "Forum" is easier to spell for many people than "Community" and that can impact the success and visits to any website built on these domain extensions, even if only a little bit. ;)

I believe this is one of reasons why forum is better than community domain extension.

I agree with you. Since all these crazy new domain extensions are coming out lately it's better in many cases to get the one that people will be able to spell better and understand exactly what the site might be about. ;)

I haven't considered buying and using either of these domain extensions but I will say that if I did want to use one then I would pick the .forum extension myself.

I just like the sound of it better and as long as it's used for a forum then it will probably be the better choice IMHO.

I'm not looking to start any kind of forum website any time soon but if I was and these two extensions were the ones that I was considering I would use the .forum extension.

I think it looks better and it also lets you know that the site is (or should be) a forum website.

.forum is obviously better because it is shorter and easier to remember (think of the average IQ's here these days lol). I have not used either but I would suggest only using them if you have a main site registered in a more well known extension. You can just have it as a second site to play off the first. So you can have like "blueblack.com" and then "blueblack.forum".

I feel shorter the better. .forum just feels better to me personally over .community

If you start a new forum that both .com and .forum are available then which one you will choose?

Definitely shorter ones are better in this case but sometimes this will not true in any other cases. :dontknow:

Well if we analyze all aspects of it, there are cases that can be made for .community - one being it sounds more professional and may appeal to an older audience.

Totally depends on what you are trying to build. If you are talking about forums then .forums makes sense but as far .community goes then you are totally dedicating that site for the building of the community that is geared towards a certain purpose.

I didn't think so beacuse I think .forum and .community are different if compared on name aspect but same meanings.

If you are looking to start a forum then it is always better to choose .forum as the domain name will have more weight in terms of seo.
Yes .forum is always a bonus to SEO aspect if you are going to SEO for a "community".

The only .community I've seen is quite funny. Has anyone been to alien.community? :rolleyes2:

Anyhow, it seems like it would be a cool extension, though, I've not considered it for any of my forum projects. Also, I have noted that .forum will be coming out at some point and it does seem very interesting. However, I'm sure the good names for it will be hunted down. In other words, philosophy.forum or seo.forum will be gone in a jiffy.

I would love to choose a niche domain. If I was thinking about having a forum of my own, I would go with dot forum domain and for a communituy discussion board I would be using dort community domains. Dot com is so generic that you cannot tell what the site is about just through the domain name and extesion. Further more dot com is so popular that every name that you can think of seems to be taken. However, for new domain extension, you can have any name you want.

As stated above by some mates, .forum would be much more appropriated if you're willing to build a forum type of thing. At least in my POV, .community can mislead some of the traffic. It pass me a idea of something connected with govermental stuff.

I have thought about using the .forum domain extension when it becomes available or at the very least buying a few good one for possible resale but they have been playing around for about 2 years and this one has not been released yet.

As for using one of these, I would use the .forum first because it's a lot easier to spell and with the .community you will get some people that have a hard time spelling it right. Domains and their extensions should be easier to spell and the .forum extension is much easier.

If the .forum would not be appropriate for the site that would be built on the domain then I would probably find another alternative over the .community extension.

Forum wins

Forum is more active and aggressive than community domain extension. i think that's my preference.
