When choosing a hosting company, what features do you look for the most in shared hosting? I have not used shared hosting for a long time because I moved all websites to VPS but I can get back to shared hosting for small websites in the future. Do you guys share your thoughts!

I have mostly used shared hosting for my websites and the two things that I look for are quality support and value.

I don't mean lowest price when I say value but more along the lines of what I am getting for the money I would be paying. Cheap is one thing and value is another.

I think today every shared host should include free SSL certificates, preferably one click app installer because you want to deploy as fast as possible. And I would agree with Nigel:

quality support and value.

Why dont you host a cpanel server on the VPS thus cutting down your monthly outgoings?

Most relevant features included into shared hosting packages
The Essentials: Disk Space & Traffic
Uptime: Uptime is the time when your website works online and when users can access the site without any problems.
Support: Support is extremely important.
Pre-Installed Apps: Many web host companies include so many additional features into their shared plans
Free Bonuses: Different companies try to attract more clients by offering free bonuses. Some of them will offer a free domain name, website transfer, site-building tools, or some other nice features.

Shared Hosting has come a long way over the years, but in my opinion I would expect at least:

- a 1 click-script installer
- free SSL Certificates you can install yourself (such as Let's Encrypt)
- the latest cPanel, PHP version, etc.
- Enough disk space / bandwidth to run websites smoothly

I look for a web hosting company that will take good care of it's customers and has quick and accurate support. After that I look for what resources are included with their hosting plans.

If I don't know anything about a potential web hosting provider I will try to get some quality information on them as to whether or not they are a good web hosting company to do business with or not.

A good place to look for information on a potential web hosting provider is by asking about them on web hosting forums like this one. This way you can usually get better information that on any of those web hosting review websites.

There are different factors that users can consider before purchasing shared hosting. The factors are Disk space, bandwidth, no: of domains allowed to be hosted, 24x7 Technical Support, Money Back Guarantee etc. But I would also like to look for any restriction mentioned in the TOS which is usually associated with shared hosting plans.

Which of those do you personally think are the most important ones?

I always go for quality tech support myself because I have had some real bad hosting providers in the past.

The sales chat is usually a whole lot quicker because they want to impress you and get you to buy their services.

Support speed is sometimes slower because they already have you as a customer.

You are quite exact on these points, I always like buying services from websites that having live chat support, especially on ecommenrece sites.
I used to chat with them to ask pricing and what I will get supported after a purchase.
But seem many websites didn't care about live chat support because this requires sale team must be online 24/7 to support visitors and customers

Yes I can see how an ecommerce website would definitely need some fast support because if something is wrong with your hosting and people can't make purchases then it's costing you money.

A lot of hosting companies are doing away with live chat and/or phone support and going with just ticket support. Some hosts have live chat but only during certain hours.

Quality, accurate and quick support are my top priority that I want any host that I use to have. I would rather pay more and have good support than to pay less and have bad support.

Main important point for me is Uptime, Second is Billing support resolution time.

I prefer to take backup myself instead of depending on any hosting provider, Now a days you can use free storage service but If website size is bigger then I do not host it on shared server and prefer to use VPS which allow me to take backup via FTP or any other way.

- Uptime
- Speed
- Resolution time of billing department must be fast. Most of Tech support desk is quick but main important point is billing related issue and If you ignore it then its a risky because of your account can be terminated by system due to any issue related to billing.

While actually everybody mentioning the same features, there's a good rule about 3 S's: speed, security, support.
