This is typical of GoDaddy the classic bait and switch, I would rather find a decent provider to be honest

That is what am I tell to all people who asking for new domains.
GoDaddy and lots a like domain sellers have one time offer with HUGE discounts on domains and then puff 2xexpensive renew(figurative speaking).

Always look renewal price on hosting providers.
Now you can only transfer to another provider who have normal price for domain.

First look around in this forum and check domain prices of present hosting providers.

GoDaddy stopped providing renewal coupon codes when they became a publicly traded company because of changes in their policies. Now each person can only use one code at a price for the life of their account so if you use one $.99 coupon then you won't be able to use another.

Their renewal prices are higher than most of the top registrars but that's because they are trying to make back what they lost on people who used a cheap code to get a domain in the first place.

They have a DDC which is a paid club that you can buy into and get discounts on things but it costs more than it will save unless you have many domains.

I renewed dozens of domain names at Godaddy but never fount out any coupon codes to down pricing for renewals.
If you are sure that you can do more things with your domain, you should buy many years for a new domain and using a coupon code to have big discounts.

I have ever bought domains there with $2.45 / a domain when using a coupon code.

As far as I know, they only have the "first domain .99$" coupon when you first register. After that, there are no other domain coupons.

Their current policy is one coupon per price, per customer. If you have never used a $.99 coupon (as an example) before then you can still use one even if your account is not new just as long as you have Never used one before at that price.

Never liked GoDaddy due to high prices, and moved my domains to Namesilo and Namecheap. You cannot do anything to get anything cheaper from them except for the first time promotion of getting a domain for first year for 1$, but thats only for 1st year, next year its actually better to move at a better place.
