I want to unzip / untar / unrar / gzip files on my CentOS 6.x, so how do i install the necessary RPMs to do this? or can I use zip and unzip after having a new VPS?

Tar should already be installed with any linux system

for unzip use: yum install unzip
for gzip use: yum install gzip

thanks for answering my question, I want to ask which commands to use unzip and gzip on a VPS?
Do they have same file extension after zipping a file or folders?

For unzip :

Code:

unzip yourarchive.zip

And I do not use gzip, but just zip :

Code:

yum install zip

Code:

zip -b /yourcontent/path yourarchivename.zip

To see all settings available :

Code:

zip -h
unzip -h

Contact your hosting provider and they should provide a solution for you.

"gzip file1 file2 file3" and "unzip filename.zip"

To zip a folder : zip -R file.zip foldername
