I did some searching on the Google and came up with 5jelly.info and they are offering this VPS plan with $0

40GB Disk Space
100GB Monthly Bandwidth
4.8 Ghz Processor
2GB Memory

I heard some people on the forum, 5jelly is scam but I don't believe that, why they are called as a scammer? they are still offering this free VPS package, it is attracting everyone. Has anyone tried this yet?

I can't speak from personal experience with 5jelly.info, however when it comes down to free hosting the issue is that clients become the product, unlike with paid hosting where the product is the offered service.
Besides free hosting and domains always attract the wrong crowd of people.

A) How are they making money? Running a hosting business is expensive. If they are not turning a profit, they may just shut down in the middle of the night and cause your site to be down and data lost!

B) Many scammers/hacker look for free hosting plans to use and abuse. Remember, a VPS is still shared hosting. do you really want to share a server with scammers, spammers, and hackers?

Yes as RDO stated, unsavory clients are looking for these exact type of deals. They can use a free vps to send spam, distribute malware, as a bot... Once those types of things start happening on the same server that your VPS is on, then you will feel the effects. Blacklisted IP ranges, poor performance of your vps etc.

If you have a real use for a VPS it is best to buy the service from a reputable company, to avoid the things I mentioned above.

How free hosting always attract the wrong crowd of people? do people use free hosting for bad purposes?

I agree with you on this point, but they might offer free hosting to encourage their website visitors try their hosting plans first before deciding buying them?

It is one of reasons why I didn't use free hosting services till now, but would hear risks can happen if I use a free hosting service.
Some free hosting could add their advertising on websites or they will require to pay when my site grows. I am thinking it is the benefit that web host are offering free web hosting services.

Most decent providers use FraudRecords or similar billing integrated modules with a common database to perform background checks and report abusive clients, spammers and fraud. With free hosting such things are much harder to verify since there is no payment method which would corespond to the clients legal name, therefore is much easier for such a crowd to register an account or several accounts with false aliases.

I was try to get from them account so I can play with VPS but never get email confirmation from them :)

All free hosting providers have some issue with their offers and mostly its ends with websites crushes, server crushes etc.
why they are have free offer and how they manage to pay for servers? don't know maybe they are testing their servers and after they will go for paid solutions, who knows.
As all said before me and I agree with them, if you looking for you website go with something safe and reliable.
If you wanna test their VPS GO ahead use them.

This is the first time i have ever heard of 5jelly but I doubt about their services, no one can easily give you a free VPS with good features that they don't get any thing from you.

What reasons why you never use free hosting services? If some are offering free VPS with good services, I think we still should give them a try, right? but maybe we should review them carefully before hosting websites on kind of this service.

This is just a marketing tactic which is apparently working. They will not keep offering free services. They are creating brand awareness to get their name out there, and soon they will switch to paid services, and no doubt will even switch existing free plans to paid services.

Would you want to signup with a provider who uses such tactics to gain your business in such way? They should be upfront and say what they are doing.

Enjoy the free services they offer while they last. :good:

I don't think free VPS is really a bad option, you can use it to transfer files, testing configurations or install some control panels, but if you use it to host your websites, you can have risks or problems, that's why most people will go with paid VPS to host their websites.

I never use free VPS or free hosting services, no one gives you a quality service for free if they don't get you somethings back.

Good morning,

As I remember about it, this is just scamming peoples. They want referred peoples before giving you the VPS. And each referred peoples needs to be active.

Don't worry you can't register on 5jelly for now. they have some issue with register form.

Any way many free VPS hosting companies have some rules.
Some of them will give you free if you have 5 referrals or more, some of them will ask you to post to their forum.

Any way they want some people to test their VPS's so they can see what they have to-do to improve their services and how much VPS's their system can handle.
When they do all tasks and get satisfied results they will go to the paid services or they will go out with money and shutdown company.

Looks fake to me. The client reviews are posted by people owning *jelly domains.

Be careful with those kind of free services with no track record of credible performance, much worse only negative can be found about it. Amazon offers free vps hosting for a year, you might want to check. There are good tutorials on how to set them up as well.

Well, one big thing I noticed - and it's sort of humorous, is the fact that on their support page most of the FAQ is not written in English, but rather that Latin stuff that coders put on to fill space. :)

Anyway, changing the topic a bit, a lot of times these companies will have some catch. For instance, with the one popular free hosting company I saw, they lacked one-on-one support and limited server power. Now, I don't know what 5jelly.info ommiting or limiting but I bet it's something. Any idea what it might be?

If I remember correctly they are part of Youhosting (Hostinger's failed brand). In hosting nothing free is reliable, especially VPS's
