We are going to set up a business rather a NGO in rural India where teachers have to log in to a page online from remote rural locations. Our web developers advised us to use cloud hosting as it is best in rural areas. But we are not convinced. We heard that it is not at all stable. It is not all secured. Then is there any option for me.Or We have to manage? All comments are welcomed.

Hi intlum10

Cloud hosting is simply a server that has fail over protection making it very stable and almost impossible to fail, and is highly recommend. However as has been discussed many times on this forum " Cloud Hosting " is very much an over used buzzword and unless you understand what cloud techology is and can ask specific questions to a provider it can be hard to really know if you are hosted on a cloud or not. I would suggest a cloud shared account for your site, you can always upgrade to a cloud VPS if your needs require more power in the future.

All the best to you with your business.

If you are planning to migrate your business to the cloud, I would say it is the best decision since cloud emphasizes on numerous benefits and the best thing of the cloud is that it will benefit your business so that your employees can work from anywhere it just require the internet connection. And talking about security, cloud focuses on providing cent percent security since it applies end-to-end encryption and multi-level authentication process to the data and application you use. I highly recommend you switch to the cloud, you will enjoy and gain all the benefits at the top.

Cloud security is not better than any other hosting solution. Several cloud services providers have already encountered security issues, even some secure storage like dropbox. If the word cloud is about using server clustering to provide high-availability, almost all hosting providers are already using similar solutions, without using "Cloud" to have more sales.

Cloud hosting is the future.
You will get: (Depends on Providers)
- Dedicated resources or your own resource pool
- Pay only for the resource you are going to use.
- You can manage your own security.
- Full control of your cloud Infrastructure
- Most cloud providers provide private IP network. Which you will be able to utilize for your non public facing services.

Many many more...

The region you'll be accessing this service from isn't related to the type of hosting you'll be using. What you've been speaking about is regarding "routing paths", and you would need to check in your region, which are the available routing paths, through the telecommunication carriers you'll be reaching internet, that offers the shortest path to the datacenter you'll select to provide you the services you are looking for, this is, if you are prioritizing quality and response time for the services you'd be providing.

The choice of cloud hosting for any business as hosting plan will be beneficial as there many advantages of cloud hosting when compared to traditional hosting. Cloud hosting gives high uptime as there is virtually no downtime in cloud hosting, offers great flexibility and cost of cloud hosting is very economical when compared to traditional hosting. Hence any website can be hosted using cloud hosting.

Yes and No. From what I feel your web developers are probably just trying cash out more from the tradition hosting which your NGO should just do fine with. Cloud Hosting is a new term which people try to use to sell shared hosting nowadays. An Actual Cloud Hosting is when you are provided with a standalone VM which is deployed on a Cloud Infrastructure which I highly doubt your developers are going to be doing. They will probably be telling you to go with Cloud Hosting which basically is a Shared Hosting service on a Cloud Server ( Not a dedicated resource ).

Here is what you should do. Find a Hosting who's servers are located in India or Singapore this will ensure the Pings to be as low as possible which would result in faster browsing on even mediocre Internet speeds ( Rural India will barely be able to get 2-4 Mbps up/down links )

Secondly, try to go with reputable providers such as A2Hosting. ( Be Far Away from HostGator, BlueHost and other EIG Brands they have pathetic support and their services aren't that great in India )

VPS:
Using virtualization technology one physical server divided into several smaller servers. If physical server failed all smaller servers will fail.

Cloud:
Cloud platform uses multiple servers connected together in a cluster. Cloud use Shared Distributed Storage or SAN Storage. Your VPS server or Cloud service will be always available. One physical or multiple physical nodes failure will not impact your service.

Cloud hosting is suitable for anyone, however some providers market their regular VPS servers as Cloud servers. Most low budget offers are just that, true cloud servers are usually in the higher price range. If your budget is low rather go for a quality VPS with good redundancy, the preformance and even possibly the uptime will be better than that of a cheap "cloud" server.

Not always true. We are running 6 nodes cloud infrastructure with Proxmox and CEPH Storage Cluster. We are also offering low budget VPS.
