I prefer to buy a domain instead of getting it for free. I am not with free domain. Free domain seems to be popular with spamers and scammers. Even though you may get a domain fro free, the free domains come with a price. You will have unwatned ads on your website.

You can get really cheap domains these days.
dot.tk is very related to SPAM activities. Google doesn't rank very well .tk websites.

I tried freenom back then just for a website testing and i didn't face any problem. There is nothing wrong in using free domain unless you can afford a .com extension or something unique. Now they add a free 1 year domain name bundled with hosting which is great.

For free domains : freenom
For paid domains: if your host offers domains at discounted price bundled with hosting, you could try that. Most are resellers of the bigger name sellers. Make sure to look at the renewal costs.

If you want to go directly to the bigger name sellers just for the domain: namecheap, enom, GoDaddy
I wouldn't recommend buying hosting from them though!

I never used freenom for domains. Is this domain register trusted?
For getting cheap and lowest price domains, I would go with Godaddy, Namecheap or Name.com when they are offering a big coupon code. It's time for me to buy new domains with good price.
