Hi Gmeister4,

The following link here should be helpful.

Our favourites, in no particular order, are cPanel / WHM, Webmin and Vesta CP.

Cheers,

Honestly, cPanel would probably be the best, even with its quirks.
A free option is CentOS Web Panel (CWP).

If you are looking for something free, you can go with WebuZo but if you can pay for control panel then of course cPanel / WHM.

But it doesn't mean that your choices are limited, you always can Google it and know about more control panels for VPS :icon_mrgreen:

Thanks.

Plesk Onyx is the best control panel for hosting with many great features!

Look at the cPanel changelog for the last year - https://documentation.cpanel.net/display/ALD/Release+Notes
What do we see?

- Mod_security vendors (in Plesk since 2014)
- Switch to RPM (in Plesk since 2002-2003)
- Multiple PHP support (in Plesk since 2015)
- PHP-FPM support (in Plesk since 2013)
- Subaccounts (in Plesk since 2009 as Users)
- 2-Factor Auth (in Plesk since 2014)
- SNI support (in Plesk since 2010)
- IPv6 support (in Plesk since 2010)
- DNSSEC support (one day difference in cPanel favor)

It looks like that cPanel copies Plesk! :)
And Plesk Onyx has Git, Docker, Node.js, Ruby on Rails support out of the box!

I would most likely suggest going with cPanel in this case. It would be good to know what is your goal with your hosting service. Simply offer shared/reseller hosting, application focused, what will you be aiming at? With that in mind, nowadays if you will be doing regular shared/reseller the best option would probably be cPanel. Even though Plesk has been around for a while and has great features, the community for cPanel is much bigger and you will find almost any plugin you might need. It will also make it easier for a lot of your clients to work with a control panel they are probably used to.

I thought there are feature also existed on cPanel, right?

Don't know if cPanel also offered these features

cPanel is a sure bet. We use it at Ventureer and we are quite happy with it.

If you don´t need a pro control panel Centos Web Panel or Webmin are also good options.

Hi Gmeister4,

I tried to use Webmin and Vesta CP but don't think they are good hosting panels. Webmin is very complex in using and seem have to install a module Virtualmin to manage multiple virtual hosts to make it work. Not sure why you chose it as the best.

A free option is CentOS Web Panel (CWP).
This CentOS Web Panel (CWP) lacks of file manager if I am not wrong.

I would go with cPanel.
I agree completely.
Best paid panel = cPanel
Best free panel = CWP
As my reply to @Localnode.

I have not used WebuZo but I will try it when have a chance. :)

I don't like the way that Plesk Onyx manage databases for websites and FTP accounts, it use a common FTP account/SSH for all websites.

If you don´t need a pro control panel Centos Web Panel or Webmin are also good options.
Centos Web Panel didn't upgraded PHP and MySQL version after installed it, you need to upgrade manually these element, it's not inconvenient.

I have to agree with you, cPanel is easy and useful friendly interface but its price is pretty high if compared to other hosting panels.I wanted to buy cPanel lifetime license but it's impossible while monthly license is also a consideration.

Control Panel paid is the best cPanel no doubt.
But if looking for a free panel for hosting a few sites I suggest VestaCP that is lightweight and easy to use.
The CWP is also a good control panel but a little heavy for VPS with only 1GB RAM.

cPanel and Plesk are the best bet for paid ones. Earlier I would not suggest Plesk as most of the new version will be very buggy and upgrade from old version to new version can cause always issues and contacting support team for emergency support as well is very difficult.

But now a days things have changed a lot and I will say Plesk is far more better and unique in many ways than cpanel and now a days I love plesk more than cpanel. But with cpanel you have the variety of plugins which also now a days many providers are adding extensions for the plesk as well. so thats also a plus for Plesk

I guess Plesk will regain its pride soon and only thing they need to take care is smooth upgrades from older versions and priority support for those which is having serious issues after upgrade / updates

I'm seriously considering switching to Plesk because it appears like a much better system than cPanel.

Yes Plesk is really capable to beat cPanel and cpanel is the getting popular only due to the fast and open ticket support and the regular security updates. Since Plesk also opened open ticket support, I guess they will gain pace. I have been working with plesk servers from the initial days of my career and I have worked in plesk 7 version onwards when I started my career:) So I have seen it's growth a lot and it is lot more changed since those days and latest versions are just awesome and have a freshness.

You can see plesk demo from the link here.

I think cPanel gained popularity simply because you see it everywhere. It's kind of like McDonald's vs Burger King. BK burgers aren't even a comparison but yet McDonald's are on every billboard.

Much the same, cPanel is the default use panel for HostGator, which is many people's first host.

I would like to add that Plesk community much more effective than cPanel community.
When I go to cPanel forum and ask a question - I get reply only from cPanel staff.
But when someone asks a question on Plesk forum - a lot of different Plesk community members will be happy to help you, especially Plesk Experts!
So, I see Plesk community and I do not see cPanel community. I see only cPanel staff on their forum.

I checked Plesk community, you are one in their forum staff?

I tried to open some questions on Plesk forum but seem they are not answered there, maybe it didn't look like what you said.

Don't worry ! I'm writing a comparison of the most popular control panel including Plesk, cPanel, CWP, VestaCP and Sentora.
That will be an objective comparison, just a complete list of the features of each control panel and pros/cons when I have tried them.
I will post it today or tomorrow
