Hello Guys,

I'm using a shared hosting for my blogs, but sometimes the traffic increased suddenly some I got some problems with my hosting provider. So should I go for VPS hosting or I can upgrade my shared hosting plan. Any advice?

Thank you in advance.

This depends on who your hosting provider is as well as the resources they include. If you are using a poor host, then moving is always a great idea.

You can also try utilizing a CDN (content delivery network) like Cloudflare. That can help with the bursts you are experiencing a lot of times.

Hello Brett,

As per question I can say that in future you will be having huge traffic so its better that you switch your hosting from shared to VPS or even with dedicated server can do for you as dedicated will be totally owned by you and will not be shared with any one.

Before you go running off to a VPS or dedicated server, I would
certainly suggest looking into exactly what is causing the issue(s).

As @Ulterios pointed out, I would definitely look into whether it
is just a shoddy host provider or what. Even with bursts of traffic,
any host, worth half a grain of salt, should be able to handle it.

Perhaps if you post who your current host is, you could get some
real feedback from others who may have used them in the past and
can give you some better insight by at least providing their experiences
with you which should help you make a more informed decision.

Also, when you say "traffic increased", could you elaborate a little.
If we're simply talking about a jump from 500 visitors to 5000 or so,
that definitely shouldn't cause any problems. If you're talking about
an astronomical increase, then there definitely could be other factors
at play.

On the other hand, if that is not the only problem you're experiencing
with your current hosting provider, then I would definitely suggest
shopping around for another host, however, I would not necessarily
go right for a VPS or even a dedicated server, not without knowing
exactly what the problem(s) is(are).

To add to the great advice given above, also don't forget to take your site into account.

Does it use a CMS, or is it custom coded?
If it is a CMS, do you use a lot of plugins?
If it is custom coded, is it properly optimized?

Try running your website through some page speed analyzers. Not only will this give you advice for speeding up your site, but by doing so, it will also decrease the load on the server, thus keeping you from using up all of your available resources.

VERY GOOD POINT which reminds me (duh! lol)...

@Brett:
Whenever you notice your site slowing down or having problems, you should do whatever you can to check the status of your available resources as this should give you a birds eye view of what the problem(s) could be. It could be a programming error, a processor error, a tight restriction placed on accounts from the hosting company or a plethora of other possibilities...

Checking your system resources, if you have the capability to do so, it always a good start when running into problems.

Also consider using an optimising plugin.
If you're using WordPress some popular choices are:
WP Super Cache
W3 Total Cache
WP Rocket
Cache Enabler

In most tests WP Rocket and Cache Enabler were the fastest.

As others have mentioned, a CDN will greatly help. CloudFlare is great - but if you need to use a custom SSL - KeyCDN and CDN77 are the cheapest for those. If you can be fine with a shared SSL - then CloudFlare would be the fastest (and free).

Does your host use cPanel?
In cPanel there's usually a button called "Optimize Website" under the "Software" category. Simply click it and choose the radio option "Compress Everything". This will help as well.

If you still run into issues, it might be wise to upgrade to a VPS. Also Some hosts offer Semi Dedicated Hosting - which is basically Shared Hosting with more resources available.

If you have problem with your old provider I recommend you to switch from hosting provider and take a look in web hosting shared offers where I am offer one and others too of course. You just need go on one provider where you feel your self at home.

How can I possibly add to what has already been suggested? Good stuff above. You really need to know where you're coming from to know where to go next, meaning you need to figure out what resources are causing you to have issues right now, and address those. Simply moving to a new host may not be the answer, as you may take the issue with you.

If you are getting more hits for your site then I would like to suggest you to upgrade your hosting from shared to VPS.

Kindly try to find out the exact cause behind the traffic/bandwidth as there are multiple reasons and stat programs will help to get more details regarding this. You can also contact your respect hosting provider and can request them to provide you the more details regarding this. You can switch without any delay if they deny to provide the assistance for such issues.

Yes VPS is a good option but you can also go with a reseller plan or simply you can upgrade your current plan. If these three options are not working then the third option will work which is switch the host and find one that having a good reputation.

I'd probably recommend a VPS if you're serious about your websites and a shared web hosting server isn't sufficient for your needs.

If you're getting decent amounts of traffic and are able to monetize it then don't wait for a problem to happen or for it to get worse. Basic shared hosting is "usually" reserved for basic websites, mom and pop brochure type sites, etc. Look into a managed VPS.

Well if your traffic increasing and you are overloading shared hosting
Your hosting provider will probably send you email or suspend your slot for overloading

You can buy vps with cpanel, you may also choose unmanaged or managed vps depends on your needs.

Unfortunately, once your shared hosting account starts to use a lot of resources, you're pretty much forced to migrate to either a VPS or dedicated server. Of course, that's assuming you've optimized the sites on your account.

Hosting is just for simple websites. I always recommend to sue VPS server to avoid shared hosting at all.
