What are the formulas for doing SEO for a title tag?

for example, I want to SEO for keyword "get more Facebook Likes"

I should put blog title as following:

how to get more facebook likes for free
how to get more facebook likes on business page
how to get more facebook likes on photos
how to get more facebook status likes

Any suggestions?

Check which keyword is good for you. Then use that title. Maybe "how to get more facebook likes for free" keyword is good for you. If it is, I recommend to you, use this title.

Since the search engines have outgrown the lethal strategies for meta titles in a website, i would recommend to Keep them short and meaningful. I would suggest to use the keyword in the beginning of the title. If you have more than one keyword, use a combination of keywords giving a meaningful information.

Hello OP,

I have utilized the following formula and it seems to work pretty well:

KEYWORD PHRASE ONE - KEYWORD PHRASE TWO | COMPANY NAME/BRAND

So in your case, it may be something like:

Get More Facebook Likes - Social Media Optimization | YourBrand

The closer the keyphrase is to the start of the title, the better, I have found.

I saw more people using this method

KEYWORD PHRASE ONE - KEYWORD PHRASE TWO | COMPANY NAME/BRAND

but why not

KEYWORD PHRASE ONE

??

Because Social Media Optimization | YourBrand is for your web category and homepage with Brand name.

Putting both targeted keywords in a title is not good way, I would use just one

Code:
[B]KEYWORD PHRASE ONE | COMPANY NAME/BRAND[/B]
Anyone knows this character "|" affect SEO? Should I use "-" instead?

technically they are said to be exactly the same. However if you look at any and all Search engines ( That I have ever looked at ) the exact syntax would be the use of the " - " you never see the use of " | ". And think for a moment.. when was the last time you typed in a Pipe in a search quarry? Even at all things being equal... I would use the " - "

The methodology that I adhere to is that the Title tag is one of the most important elements of modern Panda-friendly optimization.

Let's say I conduct some keyword research and find that "Keyword One" has 400,000 searches per month. "Keyword Two" has approximately 200,000 searches. By putting the primary and secondary keywords in the Title, there is an increased ability to rank for both of those terms.

For example, if you search for "outdoor lighting" in Google, you will get these top results:

outdoorlighting.png

Notice that the title of the first result is:

Outdoor Lighting & Exterior Light Fixtures - The Home Depot

This tends to be how things work in 2015 with Panda-friendly titles. There are, of course, many factors that determine rankings beyond the title tag. Investigate top results. Search for high competition keywords and analyze the sites that are ranking highest.

What do their title tags look like?
How is their URL structure set up?
What do their headers (h1, h2, etc.) look like?
How are keywords used in the on-page text?
What are the anchor texts / do-follow/no-follow status of their internal links?

Researching these elements of already-ranking sites will help you get a better understanding of what search engines are looking for.

I saw more people using this method

KEYWORD PHRASE ONE - KEYWORD PHRASE TWO | COMPANY NAME/BRAND

but why not

KEYWORD PHRASE ONE

??

Because Social Media Optimization | YourBrand is for your web category and homepage with Brand name.
Because you will get more traffic from being optimized for both keywords rather than a single one.

I agree with Jim
You must adhere to the Google Guidelines and do not use exact keywords. Give it a meaning and keep the title limiter to 56 characters. Good Luck!

I agree with number of charaters for a better title but not sure which are google guidelines, its pretty common and it's hard to rank a post without using exact keywords in the tittle.
