Transferring my domain to a new registrar--WHOIS security

Hi, so I want to transfer my domain from Godaddy to Ionos, but in the process I found I have to turn off my WHOIS privacy on Goddady before I can do so (which would create a brief time of exposure of my name, address, etc.).

I'm surprised there's not a secure procedure for transfer. I guess my questions are 1. is there anything I can request of Godaddy that would prevent exposure during the transfer? 2. should registrars set up a more secure way to transfer?

Thanks for any help.

You should contact Godaddy directly to ask for their help for what you are not clear now.
If you still do it and not sure what you do, the process may be failed and you need to wait for a long time before can start it again.

Thanks for the responses. I'm surprised this is standard procedure to have no way to seamlessly transfer WHOIS privacy, as it seems very insecure!

So you're saying this is just the way Godaddy is set up, and not all providers?

Yes, unfortunately. But if you want help from someone for your second doubt, I think someone who understands this space better is LogicBoxes. Their consultants will help you for sure.

Totally not the point of the question but... why are you transferring it to Ionos?

Out of all of our clients who have ever told us that they have had any issues with domain registrars, about 30% of them have been with GoDaddy and about 65% with Ionos.

That aside, this is definitely a GoDaddy specific issue, I have just transferred a couple of domains today between different registrars and not faced this issue at all.
