Hello, a bit of a newbie question here. If I am in the wrong thread please do inform me so I can delete or hopefully inform moderators to move this topic. I want to create a website and I always hear and read that I need SEO to have a successful site. What is it and what does it really do technically to your website? If possible, could someone explain this profoundly? Would love to hear back. Thanks a lot.

No you don't need SEO to have a succesful site. SEO consists to improve your website to have a better rank in search engines.
You will have more visitors by learning how google see your website, and how they rank each website.
Try to follow Google webmaster guidelines, and your website will receive more traffic. You can use some tools like https://varvy.com/ or https://www.woorank.com to identify issues.

SEO = Search engine optimization, mean you need to optimize your website to make it friendly with search engines like Google, Bing to get high rankings on them.

Go to some training sites and searching SEO ebooks or SEO tutorials, they are best places to learn SEO or at least you can put your question relate to SEO on this forum and some guys can help you out.

It is nice to hear your suggestion because I, myself would like to know about SEO in some other area. I hope I could find ebooks or tutorials that are easy to understand. I am on the process of creating my own websites. Somehow, I have an idea about optimizing it.

It doesn't necessarily mean that you need SEO to have a successful website. There are different components for you to have in order for it to be successful, some examples would be the content, the design, how easy the navigation is and many more. Though in your case, SEO could be beneficial though not yet needed since you are just beginning to build a website. SEO or Search Engine Optimization is something that could help be found in search engines like Google, Yahoo or Bing on top of the results. This could help your website in the long run since its easily seen by people who are searching for the same information that your website can offer.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the summary of all activities aimed to increase the number of visitors to a website by obtaining high-ranking placement in the results page of a search engine like Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines. It is essential to anyone marketing online.

I have made a much detailed response to a thread started by Cookie Runner dated 10.23.17 entitled, SEO: How important is this Online? For more insights, I suggest you check this out and go over the response coming from other members as well. If you really want more details on this you can run a search in the internet, and will result with a lot of reference articles.

SEO is a distinct web marketing technique that can be used to rank a website higher than the millions of other websites in return to a search term. It is also about making a search engine result more appropriate to the search query so that more number of people make use of outcome that is displayed in search.
It is required to get traffic, visibility in Search Engine Result Pages [SERP] and also smooth running of a website.

I disagree with the comments. I think you need SEO to have a successful site. What's a successful site? In my opinion, it's a site that helps you achieve your goals. Your goal may be to share information or to make money. To do both you need traffic. The best way to get traffic is for your site to be ranked as one of the first ones on Google. The best way to accomplish this is to use SEO techniques.

SEO to my understanding is a way of using words known as keywords, content and other techniques that will cause your site to be ranked as one the first after a search on Google. You have to ask yourself when Google gives its result after a search, how many people open all the results? My guess, not many. Most people just open the first few results. For your site to do well it needs to be amongst the first.

Basically we know about SEO which also known as search engine optimization, by this way you can rank up your site this is why we need to do seo for a website, everybody wants to see their website on google first page so in this way seo is needed. SEO is a kind of tricks of work where you can take your website on google first page, though only seo can't do that if your targeted keywords are not matching, content is not unique then it wont work whatever it should be. By seo you can pass your website link to others to get more traffic, this is why lots of people use social media where visitors are more.

I have found this discussion already has been established well. Before explore on it let me emphasis on a conceptual fact.
let me ask you simple question ?
Did you ever been explore on the 2nd page of search engine result page? 99% will say no and the 1% who did for web research purpose if they might have.
This is because search engine gives us the most relevant result on the first page that we want. So how does it come?
Here comes the word SEO, Search engine optimization. It is a measurable and repeatable process that send signals to search engines that your pages are worth showing in Google's (search engine) index.
i think you have got the base concept of SEO.

Search engine optimization is the process
of optimizing a website in order to make it easy to find via search engines like Google.

Ideally, it's best to do your keyword research before you start writing content. This lets
you know which keywords to focus on in
your content. It's best to use a mixture of broad and long-tail keywords.

After you complete your Google SEO
keyword research and have a list of
Google SEO keywords you want to target,
it's time to write! Your SEO keywords need
to appear in your content just don't
overdo it or your content will look spammy.

Increase visibility to your optimized
content by sharing it on social networks
and building links to your content. Be
sure to create internal and build external
links from outside sites.

These are the basics of SEO Optimization.
