Web hosting service is an internet hosting provider that serves customers with frame-up websites to access through the World Wide Web. It falls under 2 categories: smaller and larger hosting services. Smaller hosting services refers about those web pages like personal webpages which are usually free of charges but with limited features unlike those paid services with special set-up features. Larger hosting service is about those complex sites that carries massive algorithm of database and platforms eg. cloud hosting, shared hosting etc. They are usually required to sign the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certification to be able to activate strong security of data storing. And the Managed hosting wherein the user/client does not have full control, allowing the Web host to assure the quality of the service. The user may manage data using FTP or remote management tools.

I'm not an expert of this topic but i think web hosting is a type of service that provides you the ability to create your own website.
It provides storage space where you can store your data for your website.
I don't know much about this and there's so many things i need to know about this....
I hope with this forum i will get to know more and who knows maybe someday i will get the opportunity to run my own website and be very very successful and be very very rich just by reading with your posts.

The large high powered computers are called servers or data center. Web Hosting is just giving a space of data to let the costumers to have a website but they are not the owner of the data space that they are using. In layman's term, it is a renting.

I personally don't have the technicality of the process of web hosting services but from what everybody here are explaining basically is web hosting servers act as a medium or a bridge for individuals or as they said organizations for their websites or webpage to fully interact with the public and their interest.

What is web hosting?

Let's relate it to real-world terms. In the real world, you need a place to stay. That's your home. In cyberspace, as a web surfer, you are basically a nomad with nowhere to call a home. So if you want to make a place your home in cyber space, you need to have some place to put down your roots, so to speak.

This is where web hosting comes in. A web host, ie the company providing the web hosting, rents you a place in cyberspace to call your home. It can be a shared space, like shared hosting. Or a dedicated space, like a dedicated server. Each type of hosting has its pros and cons, which is another story altogether.

The only thing to remember about web hosting is that it doesn't work without a domain name. Just like having a plot of land in real life without an address. Nobody can find where your home is if you cannot tell them the address, right? Same with your home in cyber space. You have the web hosting and you need the domain name to tell people where your cyber home is.
