In terms of web hosting for a new wordpress website , I have received comments that 20 GB bandwidth is more than sufficient.
Can anyone explain the differences from both point of view(s) namely user and host ? How does one go about to estimate this amount ?

Appreciate if you guys can advise me on this. Thanks.

Yes, 20GB is more than sufficient for a new WordPress website. It is difficult to estimate the amount of bandwidth you will require, but here's a quick explanation of how it works.

Let's say your website, example.com contains text, files, images, and all that content adds up to 2MB. Each time a new visitor visit example.com, it will cost you 2MB.

Frankly speaking, we rarely have customers hosting WP sites who exceed 10GB per month. 20GB is frankly more than sufficient even for a moderately active site.

I understand it now. Yes, I think 20GB is definitely more than sufficient. I guess the media files and content do not make up that much in my case. In this scenario, 20GB is really excessive for a WP site.

Thank you for the clarification.

20Gb of bandwidth refers to the amount of data that can be transfered between your account and the internet.

If your website is new and has limited pages and web-contents then 20GB bandwidth is sufficient. Bandwidth is the rate of data transfer that is how many users are accessing your webpages. As your website has less contents then 20 GB bandwidth is sufficient. If in future, if you are going to upload the media, videos then keep the bandwidth as it is. It will help you.

For a new wordpress website,20 GB bandwidth is definitely more than enough. As bandwidth is the rate of data transfer and assuming for start your website's views will be limited, let' s say 100.000,1 GB bandwidth is ok for that.If you hit 200. 000 views, 2GB and so on

Depends totally what you've got on the site, but the 20GB is a measure of how much data you can transfer between your site and the internet. Somewhere else it'll tell you how often this 20GB refreshes itself.

If you have no real visitor base and its just a new website which is in the create phase 20GB bandwitdh per month should be more then enough. However once you reach a certain amount of daily visitors it would be good to upgrade that to atleast 100GB.

I guess it's true since a webpage would not take much capacity as well. In this case, the variable factor would be the amount of traffic. What happens when the limit of the plan is reached ?

Its up to the provider your hosted with, some will throttle down the bandwitdh for your service, or ask to upgrade your current plan and there is those that might suspend your shared hosting account.

You shouldn't have issues finding a provider which offers a decent amount of monthly bandwitdh or unmetered.

I see. Yes, most providers offer decent amount of bandwidth. I don't think there's an issue when it comes to that. Thanks for sharing the info.

Yes 20 GB bandwidth is enough for a wordpress site. Bandwidth gets eaten every time someone visits your site loads the text and pictures, but usually text and pictures don't eat up a lot of space so they will not use much of your bandwidth. If you planning hosting lots of long videos and online games then you need to be more careful because this things definitely are larger and if you have a lot of visitors they can eat the bandwidth quickly
