Multi-factor certification (MFA) can be very helpful for small businesses in the following ways:
Small businesses often have limited resources and can’t invest as much in cybersecurity as larger businesses. MFA significantly improves account security by adding additional authentication factors such as SMS verification codes, mobile app tokens, hardware tokens, etc. Even if the password is compromised, the attacker will not be able to log into the account through a single factor, effectively preventing data breaches and account theft.
According to statistics, using MFA can reduce data breaches to more than 90%. This is critical to protecting the confidential information of customers and companies, especially small businesses that may lack adequate resources to respond to data breaches.
Many industry regulations (e.g. GDPR, HIPAA, etc.) recommend or mandate stricter authentication measures. By implementing an MFA, small businesses can better meet these compliance requirements and avoid the hefty fines they face for violating regulations.
Implementing an MFA can show customers that a company values their personal information and financial data, thereby enhancing brand credibility and trust. This is especially important for small businesses, as customer trust is key to business growth.
The MFA supports multiple authentication methods, such as mobile phone tokens, SMS/email verification codes, and biometrics. Small businesses can choose the right certification method according to their needs and budgets, and flexibly deploy MFA systems.
MFA system usually provides a centralized management console, administrators can centrally manage user authentication information, token issuance and reclamation operations. This management method not only improves the management efficiency, but also reduces the pressure of operation and maintenance.
Based on the adaptive MFA policy, an enterprise can determine the risk based on user authentication data such as attributes and locations, and enable secondary authentication only within the risk range. This approach takes into account employee efficiency and user experience while ensuring information security.
While an MFA requires a certain initial investment, in the long run, it can significantly reduce the potential losses arising from a data breach or account breach. In addition, MFA can reduce IT support costs by, for example, reducing password reset requests.
Small businesses are increasingly adopting a telecommuting model, and MFA can help businesses secure logins when employees are using different devices or networks. For example, with a mobile phone token or SMS verification code, employees can securely access enterprise resources from anywhere.
Promoting and popularizing MFA is an important measure to improve the overall security of enterprises. Small businesses can do this by instituting policies and processes that require employees to enable MFA when using company accounts, and by regularly checking and evaluating employee account security.
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) can be a significant help for small businesses, not only to enhance security and reduce the risk of data breaches, but also to meet compliance requirements and increase customer trust. Through flexible deployment and easy to manage operation and maintenance mode, MFA can help small enterprises achieve efficient security management with limited resources.

I recommend 2FA which is a MFA, and I do use it myself for my small company. It means if someone was to guess my password which are automatically generated, they need my mobile phone.
