To start with do the below things below.

1) If you are not sure what you exactly need , hire an expert in order to start a successful hosting organization
2) Survey the market and pricing and then make your packages and their pricing
3) make sure you have 24x7 support ( No need to start with ) but a must thing.
4) make a SEO friendly website having live chat functionality
5) start forum posting in order to advertise as well as social media marketing
6) For a wordpress hosting organization to start VPS is OK but if you grow you will need better solution like either dedicated server or a cloud instance

AND
7) have patience -- the most important thing

You can start from reseller hosting until you get some number of customers then when you reach good number of customers you can easily move to a VPS hosting.

To host wordpress it's important good php and mysql version.

Linux servers are recommended for wordpress for better perfomance.
A good control panel will make its easier like cpanel, plesk, estc...

Security, Speed and support is important for any web hosting company.

You can get a reseller account or VPS within your budget (might need to expand it another $20 with VPS for billing software etc), but if you are looking to start a hosting business I would recommend you start with a VPS.

Reseller plans are good and ideal for web designers etc but you will find yourself running to your upstream provider for IP blocks, account restores, DNS problems etc which can make your customers annoyed if your provider takes ages to reply to tickets and resolve issues.

As others have said "patience" unless you are a web designer it could take weeks/months before you get your first clients unless you have existing contacts that will use your service.

This business is very saturated with all the get rich quick people who normally shut down after not making $$$$$ in 3 months, you just need to stick with it keep customers happy and business to start to develop. The hosting business needs a very long term strategy.

I would suggest a cPanel VPS easy to manage and great for hosting WordPress sites.

Best of luck to you :D

Yeah, cPanel VPS is the choice to go, that is if you know how to manage a server. If not, then you better learn fast :) or stick with reseller plans, since managed service (good ones) usually cost more than that.

For Wordpress only hosting, usually the profit margin is quite large but it requires a bit more starting investment than $40/mo to be truly competitive in my honest opinion.

First, you'll need to have a high performance server. Wordpress when loaded up with plugins are quite cpu heavy, so if you go with VPS, don't cheap out on the CPU, nor RAM. It's also better to have a separate server for database. You also need a backup solution, and ideally a partnership with a CDN. You also need to figure out how to give each users their own staging areas.

Then, i'd recommend load testing a typical wordpress installation like with 7 days worth of posts with image, a bunch of plugins, etc, with caching on or off in Load Impact, so that you can reasonably measure, in specific terms, how many hits a wordpress site hosted in your platform can get before it got slowed down or crashed. Most managed wordpress providers usually advertise with a specific number in mind. I.e plan A can handle 25k visitors/month, plan B 1 million. Load testing is also good just to make sure that you're not actually false advertising without realizing it yourself.

All these things are needed because in my experience people who are looking for managed wordpress are doing so because they already have an active/busy wordpress sites and they have experienced how limited shared hosting are for those purpose. The only thing they care about is how fast, and how much hits the site can handle, so focus on that.

Thank You LjHost Ill keep That in mind . im only trying to help But i see your point
I understand and your comments where trying to offer assistance, but I'm sure you also understand we have to enforce a strict policy on posts like these or the forum quickly becomes
BUY FROM ME, BUY FROM ME ! every other post.

We like FWH to be a community of knowledge and like minded people first and foremost, we also have a great advertising section and hosting requests where potential customers can post requirements and get direct offers from from hosts and can ask any questions they have.

Welcome to the community :D you will find us more laid back and friendly than other hosting forums.

There are 2 ways of doing this you cna get a cPanel reseller account and use them as the server manager and then you can just foucs on making the wordpress sites help you out.

All go down the VPS route.
IF you want to do gown the VPS costs are higher as you need to pay for the VPS, software licence and then configure the server for your usage.

As a start out i would strongly recommend going though a cPanel reseller as you are just starting off which helps keep your costs down.

To save money, I'd go with a reseller as you can get a good reseller with half your budget. If you go with a VPS, at $40/m you're going to be missing out on a lot of things (proper backups, licensing such as CloudLinux etc).

Also with a reseller, the server would be managed by the hosting provider so that should make things easier on you.

Does paypal works for you? its a good practice to start with reseller as this will reduce your management cost.
Later on you can upgrade from VPS to dedicated once your client base increases.
Which payment option are you presently using?

If you are just starting and don't have a lot of clients for registering for sure go with a reseller.

For a payment if most of the clients will be locals try to implement some local payment processor if not paypal is a good way to go.

$40 per month. I am think that the $40 per month he is talking about is the maximum that he is wanting to spend on server costs and other expenses each month.
