I can try, sure others will chime in.

- Banner Rotator - Simply rotates different banners so you can test and find which get the most clicks.

- Content Lockers - Locks content for readers need to do something to unlock it. Usually submit their email address or share the page on their social networks.

- Monetization Tools - Could be so many things. Tracking scripts, banner rotators, click trackers.

- Click-Through Rate (CTR) - Just as it sounds, how many times a banner/ad/link get's click compared to how many times it's viewed. The higher the CTR the better it is performing.

- URL / File Lockers - Sam as content lockers I believe. New one to me. Sounds like something CPA marketers use.

- Cost per Action (CPA) - A form of affilaite marketing, where the traffic performs an action, such as filling out a form submitting their email address, even submitting their zip code. Varies per offer.

- Video Lockers - Same as content lockers

- Offer Walls ( how do I create Offer Wall?) - I would call it more like todays banner farm, just a page(s) of offers, more for CPA and related.

- Offer Tools - Not sure.

- Deep linking - Linking deeper webpages. Instead of www.site.com, more like www.site.com/animals/dogs/funny-dogs

- RSS Offer Feed - Just as it sounds, a RSS feed of offers from CPA type affiliate programs. There are usually used to add in sidebar widgets of a wordpress blog. Just add code and it's taken care of by the affiliate/cap program. Set it and forget it.

- CSV Offer Export - A way to export many offers from a CPA program. So can be imported into something else, like a wordpress blog.

- Postback Tools - Don't know.

- Global Postback What about here? what do I need to do? - Not sure

- Multi Postback - Not sure

- RSS Lead Checker - Not sure.

You know, most every one of these can be answered by using the search engines. Not that we don't want to help just saying :)

I haven't even heard of all these things before. When it comes to stuff like this, I just learn as I go and use Google - just a thought. :) Doing research -- regardless of the business model you're using -- is a big part of this gig. You have to be willing to hunt down answers to stuff you don't know.

I love Ron's post, however, allow me to ADD ON to a few:

Banner Rotator - Simply rotates different banners so you can test and find which get the most clicks.
BANNER ROTATOR ADD ON:
Not just for testing, but great when wanting/needing to show multiple/different banner ads in the same spot. I use banner rotation within many of my own software applications. I offer 1 ad slot and am able to show 5, 10, 20, WHATEVER, different banners, enabling me to open that 1 key spot to more advertisers.

- Content Lockers - Locks content for readers need to do something to unlock it. Usually submit their email address or share the page on their social networks.
CONTENT LOCKER ADD ON:
Careful with these, many sites are being penalized for this activity. I haven't used this tactic myself yet, so I do not know for sure, but I would definitely look into it if you ever decide to employ this tactic on any of your sites.

- Monetization Tools - Could be so many things. Tracking scripts, banner rotators, click trackers.
MONETIZATION TOOLS ADD ON:
Monetization tools are basically anything you can use to help you earn some additional revenue.

However, whenever I think of monetization tools, I think of two kinds: Direct and Indirect...

Direct monetization tools would be the actual tools that help you earn additional income.

Examples: banner ads, contextual ads, video presentations and CTA buttons such as "Add to Cart", "Buy Now" and "Sign Up Today" as well as Ad Networks such as GoogleAds, Facebook Ads and Admob

Indirect monetization tools are tools which help you gather info for using those direct monetization tools.

Examples: heat maps, split-testing, etc.

You are right, I should have been more detailed. Figured people would get what I was saying. Rotating as many banners in the same spots to find the good ones. Every one SHOULD be doing it, but most do not. Many folks missing out on income.

I also think rotation is used to rotate different offers in CPA. Not so much to determine the best, but to spread the traffic over many different offers.

On a side note, some good banner rotation programs/plugins can also show different ads to different visitors, like certain banners for those surfing with mobile devices. I believe some can even serve different banners give the visitors country.

Oh, absolutely. You name it, there are rotators out
there that will show banner ads based on whatever
criteria you want it to.

Wanna show banner A to those coming from Portugal,
you got it. Denmark? Sure, they'll see banner B. People
who live in time zone X will see banner 1 while those in
time zone 2 will be shown banner 2.

I once wrote a banner rotation script that looked
at the cookies on the visitors PC and based on the
info it found, could determine the most likely sex of
the visitor and show ads based on their sex (i.e would
show power tool ads for the men, purses and shoe
based banners for the women, toys for the kids and
(I shit you not) "depends" for the elderly (no pun was
intended on that one, I swear, LOL)

I once wrote a banner rotation script that would look
up the visitors IP address to see where they were most
likely located, check the local weather and display an
ad based on the forecast.

There are banner rotation scripts that will show banners
based on all sorts of different factors, including:

  • Mobile Ads (as you said)
  • Screen Resolution
  • Computer Type (Mac, PC, Pentium, AMD, etc...)
  • Referring Site
  • IP Address
  • Country
  • Visitors ISP
  • Visitors Sex
  • Local Time
  • Weather Forecast
Banner ads, if displayed and presented properly can be an
amazing revenue source because they are so versatile.

I even worked on a community site once and the only banner
ads they displayed on their site, was for local merchants. So,
I was asked to create a banner rotation script that would run
a series of checks and show banners for any business that was
within a 10 mile radius of where the site visitor was located.

They are not always dead-on accurate, but accurate enough
usually.
