Backup whole Wordpress website from Wp-admin?

How can I backup whole Wordpress website from Wp-admin? normally I must do this from my hosting control panel as backup mysql database, backup files and folders from public_html. Is there a way to do all those tasks from wordpress admin?

There's a few WordPress plug-ins that will do exactly what you're looking for, such as "BackUpWordPress" which will do a full site backup of all the blog files plus the database.

While this is possible, the plugin could potentially have vulnerabilities that are not super clear to you. I'm not saying that plugin does, it's just an example of one that does what you want.

I would still recommend having backups from your control panel, just in case a plugin doesn't do everything you need.

You can use Updraft plugin to backup the WordPress website. It takes backup of plugins, themes, database, uploads, etc separately. The good thing is if you want to restore only plugins, you can choose only plugins and restore it from your previous backups.

You must backup your WordPress site as its better safe than sorry, as you might get hacked and because you might want some kind of an old file or even to see how your WordPress site used to look.

If you’re regularly uploading content on a weekly basis, it might be best to backup once a week.

The simple steps to backup your website is to:

Use a FTP platform like filezilla, login to your site like filling into your cPanel. At that time copy all the files linked to your site to your computer. Just substitute the folders each time you repeat the copy.

To Backup the WordPress database:

Log into cPanel

Click phpadmin

Select the database that holds your WordPress files

Click the Export Tab

Click Add/Drop Table

Check Comprehensive Inserts

Check Save as File Box

Check none for compression unless your database is huge

Click the GO button


It is significant to backup WordPress website files so when something goes wrong you won't get so unfulfilled with your site that you quit. If you find these procedures to be too cumbersome you can find some plugins that will accomplish your backups for you.

You can try one of the many free backup plugins on WordPress. Personally, I prefer the Duplicator plugin.

That being said, if you have a cPanel, it is very easy (and a bit quicker) to make a backup of an entire cPanel using the "Backup", which would include any website on that cPanel. You can also generate a MySQL Database backup from that same location in cPanel.

One other method, if you have wp-cli and terminal installed, is to to run wp db export in the directory where your WordPress install is located. This will generate a .sql file which contains a full backup of the database for that website.
