CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apartâ€).
As far as I know it offers:
• Protections from scraping people's email addresses of users that are posted in clear text and spamming blogs with dozen of bogus comments.
• Stop bots from accessing on a site.
Now, Is CAPTCHA really helping on filtering BOTS/SPAMMERS? CAPTCHA are sometimes only based on reading texts, which is a problem for people who are visually impaired and some of the text images supported version are not properly distorted. This will not stop the bots from accessing protected resources because it is like reading a normal text, which something a bot can easily do. Problem is, if too many sites start using a certain redundant type of CAPTCHA, it may seem to be easy to dodge specially if you can program a bot to learn the answer.
Are you confident that your website with a CAPTCHA on it, is doing well? Or just a mere obstacle to casual users?
What do you think?
