I am using a shared plan for 2 websites but they are pretty slow if compared to my VPS packages. I could not configure more on a shared like on a VPS to speed up it. Is there a way to increase the speed of a shared hosting server?

You can not make any changes in a shared hosting environment since you do not have any root access , however you can optimize your website in order to make it fast and if its a cpanel shared hosting then make sure that your hosting server have mod_deflate, gzip modules enabled. You can check it with your hosting service provider.

So hosting the websites on VPS is actually recommended if speed and administration really matters for you.

Out of this advice I don't see any better solutions to increase speed for a shared hosting. Enabling mod_deflate, gzip, and asking for installing caching software on hosting server by your hosting provider is a good way to improve your shared hosting performance.

You need to check out allocated resources to your account. If they are limited, ask your web host to increase the limit. Check whether there are any unused files present on account.

Only thing you can do is complain to your hosting provider about the slowness of your shared plan and get them to find out why.
It is normal for a VPS to out perform shared unless the VPS is a low spec.

What type of websites are these and how busy are they? With shared web hosting, there is not much you can do with optimizing the server (much like you couldnt remodel a kitchen inside of an apartment). However what you can do is optimize your websites (ex: if you are using Wordpress, there is a great deal that can be done to speed up performance).

With shared hosting, you do not have any control on server's resources so best you could do is to contact your hosting provider. Explain your situation and ask them if they can allocate more resources to their shared hosting as other people on same server may be facing the same issue.

You could also move to a VPS package with the same or different provider so that you can increase power and resources on demand.

if I use cPanel, it is the same as Optimize website module in cPanel?

Why not host your website on your VPS server? Do you like spending the extra money? :eek:bluehat:
Yes I have VPS but using it for websites with high traffic and requiring more resources to run.
With a shared hosting, I use for small websites and it's more cheaper than a VPS.

Talk to your hosting provider and see if they can setup a plan that gives you a little bit of a discount since you already have a VPS plan with them. Depending on the host, they should / might be willing to cut you a sweet deal to host both of your websites under a reseller plan. Although this may not fix your website speed issue, you should bring this issue up to your provider as other users on that server may be experiencing this issue to. From the sounds of it, it looks like they have user(s) who are using too much server resources.

If you provider doesn't already have, ask them to get LiteSpeed and Varnish installed on the server. These both can help boost and optimize performance.

Who's your provider?

Unfortunately I use shared and VPS on different hosting companies.

I am sure they will not support to install caching solutions as LiteSpeed and Varnish on the server for me to support my shared hosting account. I used dreamhost, hostgator, bluehost, m3server and some other shared hosting companies.

Ask your provider and see what they are willing to do for you. If they feel it's going to be beneficial to you, as well as others on the server I am hard pressed as to why they would say no. Hostgator and Bluehost are owned by the same company "EIG" .. I haven't heard many positive things about EIG.

I've only had nothing but positive things about LiteSpeed and Varnish but this is from my own experience. I cannot speak for others or why some companies choose to not provide services like this but at the end of the day.

Am I wrong to think, your provider should be trying bending over backwards for you.. and if they don't

:sad_no: Find a better one.

HostGator or Bluehost are not the best provider available, both of them use slow hard drives so Litespeed, Varnish or any other caching system will not have a huge impact on your website performances.
And for the "Optimize website" section of cPanel, I'm still not sure if they are really talking about optimization by enabling Gzip...

Good morning,

Make sure that your website is running fine. Try to optimize your scripts. Also, you can setup caching systems on your script (take plugins for your CMS or check if your PHP framework can do it) and a CDN (CloudFlare may help you).

But if these solutions doesn't help you, I think that you should contact your provider and ask them to increase performance. Sometimes, you should take and upper hosting plan.

If you need varnish or other caching try to move to other web hosting or move your sites under one VPS.
There some providers that gives you memcached and varnish as additional service or one of them included in some bigger plans.

good day

I recommend you

1. Shared hosting or vps with ssd disks

2. Servers litespeed or Ngnix

3. Use a CMS with wordpress, with cache plugin, image loading, cdn and dns premium

Excellent combination to accelerate your websites

Blessings
