When starting with a niche, IMers got plans to build and make money with it and they will know which should start first, should invest and how to do.

BUT in any cases they failed at the beginning point. What are the reasons, here are several

- You do not really understand about your niche
- You do not have a good budget to invest
- Your niche is large
- You do not know what to write about
- It does not belong to your skills or hobbies
- You give up so fast

Have you ever failed when building a niche website? what are your reasons?

I guess it depends on what you consider to be a failure.

For the first few years I tried to make money building niche sites, I mostly failed because I wasn't making more than a few hundred dollars per month.

Looking back on it I can tell the reason for those failures was because I was building sites for me and all I thought about was how I wanted the site to make me money.

I didn't realize that was a mistake, and nobody was telling me it was a mistake, until I built one website that served a different purpose. That new website was built to actually help people solve a problem. I didn't intend to monetize the site at all. But I did decide to monetize it just to pay for my hosting costs. That is when I realized I hit a little gold mine. The site made way more money than any other site I had ever made. It was a small site that was really easy to make. And it got all its traffic naturally because the site solved a problem for people who were looking on the internet for that solution. So when they discovered my site, they told their friends. The site earned tens of thousands of natural shares in social media and became very successful.

Since then I quit building the typical "niche sites" that everybody talks about building. I started building websites that solved real problems for people and honestly helped them. I started building legit authority sites. I started focusing on solving other people's problems. That made all the difference. Since then, my success ratio with websites has gone way up. I still have some clunkers, but when a site fails it is not because it doesn't get traffic. When one of my sites fails now, it is because I can't find a good way to monetize that specific traffic for that specific site.

Maybe not a failure, but a lesson? The positive way to think about it right? :)

I've had plenty of things that did not work. More things that stopped working. Industries that go downhill. ect, ect.

Biggest thing I've seen over the years.

- Like you said, most people give up way to easy. Funny many don't even complete the project and still say it doesn't work.

- Jumping from one thing to another. Never sticking it out with one till it's proven to work or not. Something doesn't make money right away, they think it's no good and jump on to something else.

- Don't have belief in themselves or what they are doing.

Some people are just not cut out to build a business online. Never use to think that, but last few years I've changed my thinking.

Just my two and 1/3 cents :)

I always explain to people the difference between a martial artist and a regular person is not that they don't both get knocked down. The difference is the martial artist gets back up. It's the same with a business-person. You don't fail until you stay down.

This is one of the reasons people state start with something you love. You already know a lot about it. You WANT to talk about it. Think of what people are always asking you about. For me it was computers. Finally in 2009 I faced my worst fear and told - MY WIFE - I was quitting my job and going into in home computer tutoring and virus removal full time. I've never looked back.

One more piece of advice I give - GET UNCOMFORTABLE! If you stay in your comfort zone you won't improve in anything. Just slightly uncomfortable, otherwise you'll avoid it completely, but get uncomfortable.

Going on what I have seen and what I have come across, the biggest reason that many people fail is that they believe that niche marketing is a set-it and forget-it type of earning. Too many people think they can slap up a cheap website, throw some ads, programs, eBooks or whatever on it and the money will just come rolling in. Many also think that they can just spam out a bunch of marketing ads on Twitter Facebook or other social media and they'll start seeing the money roll in.

Too many people think that this kind of marketing is very easy and there's basically no work needed to earn good money. They don't realize that it's just like a job in that the harder you work and more time you put into it, then the greater your earnings will be. Don't look at it as an easy way to make money, but another type of job with different responsibilities.

But don't forget that failure is part of success. Every successful person has failed in the past and will fail again in the future. The difference between those who will go on to be successful and those who won't is pretty simple. A successful person will look at his failure and think, "Why did this not work? What can I do differently?" An unsuccessful person will give up.

As ulterios said, marketing is not a walk in the park. It takes hard work and time. People are deceived into thinking they can make tons of money overnight with no work or investment. Those who do make money know the dedication and effort needed.
