What amount of server resources (RAM and CPU) are usually required for an ecommerce website to work fast and without issues?

Short answer: it depends, but there are solid rules of thumb that won’t get you into trouble. If you want something that “just works” without babysitting. Start with: 2–4 vCPU + 4–8 GB RAM + NVMe SSD. Scale CPU first, then RAM, as traffic grows.

There are many factors, one of them depends on the number of users you are going to manage and the large amount of information you use in it, I have seen servers made with old hardware or them with mini PCs capable of handling large amounts of data without blinking, since it not only depends on the power but also on good network configurations with a good public IP provider.

For a typical small to medium e-commerce website:

RAM: 4–8 GB (16 GB+ for high traffic)

CPU: 2–4 cores (4+ cores for high traffic)

This assumes optimized code, caching, and a standard CMS like Shopify, WooCommerce, or Magento. High traffic or resource-heavy sites need more.
