Hi all, I own a MSP company and am looking to expanding into the VPS hosting service side. For any of you that do this currently, what hypervisor do you use? Also, what VPS management software do you use? I have looked at a few out there, but want to make sure I pick the right one. I will have several hosts in the VPS cluster. We are mainly a VMware shop for all of our virtual servers. But not sure VMware will be the best in this use case. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Feel free to ask any questions to better help a recommendation. Thanks!

We are using virtualizor.com for vps management software, and a KVM virtualisation.

Hello Gilfoyle! Considering your background as an MSP company and your familiarity with VMware, VMware vSphere/ESXi is a strong choice for your VPS hosting service. It offers robust features and scalability, especially for multiple hosts in a cluster.

For VPS management software, Proxmox Virtual Environment is a popular open-source option. It supports both KVM virtualization and LXC containers, providing flexibility and ease of use. It might align well with your requirements.

Remember to evaluate your specific needs and budget constraints before making a decision.

Good luck with your expansion into the VPS hosting service!

Hi Cheerag! Thank you for the suggestions! I do run one Proxmox server currently. Which is running great so far. I definitely prefer VMware Vpshere/ESXi over any other, since I have been running/managing it for years. I would love to continue running ESXi as my primary hypervisor for my VPS environment, but am a little confused on how I could automate it to where when a customer signs up for a VPS server, it will auto deploy the server and give them access. I guess that is my main point of this post as far as looking to expand into the VPS hosting business.

I figured I would need some kind of VPS management software (like a control panel) to do this, kind of like what Albahost mentioned above (virtualizor.com).

Sorry if these sound like noob questions, just starting to get into this side of things and definitely interested in learning all I can about it :)

Thanks again!!

I'm excited to announce that my MSP company is venturing into the world of VPS hosting services, and I could really use some advice from those of you with experience in this field. We're currently heavily invested in VMware for our virtual servers, but I'm not sure if it's the best fit for our upcoming VPS cluster.

So, I have a couple of questions for the seasoned VPS hosting pros out there:

  1. What hypervisor do you use for your VPS hosting services? Are you sticking with VMware, or have you found better alternatives?
  2. When it comes to VPS management software, what's your go-to choice? I've explored a few options, but I'm on the hunt for the right one to efficiently manage several hosts in our VPS cluster.

When expanding into VPS hosting, consider your expertise with VMware's vSphere and vCenter Server for reliable performance. Alternatively, explore Proxmox Virtual Environment, integrating KVM and container-based virtualization, offering flexibility and cost-effectiveness. Proxmox's user-friendly interface makes it popular among VPS providers. Choose based on your needs, budget, and scalability plans.

Good luck!
