Is It better to Extend domain registrations for multiple years?

Hello,

I'm at a crossroads with my domain name renewals and would greatly appreciate your input. When it comes to renewing domain names, should I opt for multiple years in advance, or is it better to renew on an annual basis? I ask this because I received email from my domain provider that they are increasing price for domain renewal

I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences on this matter!

I think it all depends on what the domain is used for.

If its a domain you are for sure going to have within the time frame then I would suggest purchasing for as long as your domain register will allow. This will help lock in rates (As you said) and takes one less thing off of your plate.

If its a clients/family member/friend I would suggest confirming with them and asking.

Other than budgeting factor, it sometimes depend on the industry that domain is being used for.
If you are providing services, then it is better to have it renewed for longer period because some time there are clients that look into much deeper details and this renewal time makes a good impact. But, if you are into blogging or any other business of this kind, then it does not matter much.
Our SEO team suggest long period, they claim it has very little, but a good effect on search engines.

If it's a domain you want to keep like a company domain, I highly recommend you renew it for longer because it means you keep the same price and don't have to pay more when Verisign or others up their prices.

And it ensures you can't forget to pay for your domain and loose it.
