I wanted to start a website with domain name extension .hosting but when checked with name.com, its price was $299 for a year and with namesilo.com, it was $329 / year. Why .hosting is so expensive over other domain extensions? any reasons?

Because they know exactly that .hosting will use hosting companies, as because it's for companies everything should be expensive :) (JOKE) i don't know really, whatever is the reason, no company will use .hosting extension for their own website as it's too long.

The price these companies gave you is absolutely insane. As I check now in our system it is marked around 92.39 $. A promo is running on for around 14.95$ and a renew price of 92.39$. We are not offering it directly on our page due to the low demand but get in touch with us if you are interested.

Yeah, some domains can be terribly expensive because they cater to a particular niche or category. Domain name pricing has gotten really out of bounds now. I think this is how they market domains saying they are 'search engine friendly'. The problem with this pricing is that no new player in the hosting space will buy a domain name with .Hosting because firstly they have to afford renewals also going ahead. They might go with an economic domain name provider like BigRock to get a .COM domain. Speaking of which you might find a lot of players that are going for .IO and the likes. Only a matter of time when they will be exorbitant.

Perhaps they're trying to attract established hosts and filter out noobs who host their servers in the parents' basement? Also a way to keep all sorts of scammers and cybercriminals at bay. I don't think it's a correct approach but maybe that's the idea behind it... luxury domain name like you know Louis Vuitton of TLDs or something ;)

Main reason is .hosting has many free names . You can wait few years and price will be lower . Now you can use .host

This is the beginning towards free hosting techniques. To host it without spending too much money, by just paying only for static domain and make server at home. That will give more storage database, better indexing, cost effective and security also.

The price of a domain name can depend on various factors, including the popularity of the TLD, the demand for domain names in that TLD, and the cost of maintaining and administering the TLD.

In the case of .hosting, it is a relatively new TLD and is considered a premium TLD. This means that the registry that manages the TLD charges a higher price for domain names in order to create a sense of exclusivity and prestige around the TLD.

Additionally, the .hosting TLD is aimed at a specific market - web hosting companies and related businesses - which may be willing to pay a premium price for a domain name that is closely associated with their industry.

Here are some reasons why .hosting TLD is aimed at the web hosting industry:
  • Targeted audience: The .hosting TLD is targeted specifically at the web hosting industry, which includes companies that provide web hosting services, data center services, cloud hosting services, and related businesses. By using a .hosting domain name, these businesses can immediately signal to their target audience what their business is about and what services they offer. Differentiation: With so many businesses operating in the web hosting industry, it can be difficult for new companies to differentiate themselves and stand out from the competition. By using a .hosting domain name, businesses can create a unique and memorable online presence that sets them apart from others in the industry.

  • Enhanced branding: The .hosting TLD provides businesses in the web hosting industry with an opportunity to create a strong and memorable brand identity. By using a .hosting domain name, businesses can choose a name that is relevant to their industry, and which is likely to be more memorable and easier to recall for their target audience.

  • Improved SEO: The use of a relevant and industry-specific TLD such as .hosting can also have a positive impact on search engine optimization (SEO). Search engines like Google consider the TLD of a website when determining the relevance of a site to a specific industry. By using a .hosting domain name, businesses can potentially improve their search engine ranking and attract more organic traffic to their site.

  • Increased credibility: A .hosting domain name can also help businesses establish a level of credibility and professionalism in the web hosting industry. Customers are more likely to trust a business with a domain name that is relevant to the industry, as it demonstrates a level of knowledge and expertise in that field.

In summary, the .hosting TLD is aimed at the web hosting industry because it provides businesses in this sector with an opportunity to create a unique and memorable online presence, differentiate themselves from the competition, enhance their branding, improve their SEO, and increase their credibility. By using a .hosting domain name, businesses can better connect with their target audience and establish themselves as experts in their field.
It's also worth noting that domain registrars like Name.com and NameSilo may charge different prices for the same domain name based on their own business models, marketing strategies, and pricing policies.

If you are looking for a more affordable domain name, you may want to consider alternative TLDs that are less expensive, such as .com, .net, or .org. These TLDs are more established and are generally less expensive than premium TLDs like .hosting.

I like this point you said and I think that the targeted audience and differentiation benefits of using a .hosting TLD are valid and can be useful for businesses operating in the web hosting industry.

Since the .hosting TLD is specifically targeted towards businesses providing web hosting services, data center services, cloud hosting services, and related businesses, it can help these businesses to immediately signal to their target audience what their business is about and what services they offer. This can be particularly beneficial for newer companies or businesses that are trying to establish themselves in the industry.

Additionally, using a .hosting domain name can help businesses to differentiate themselves from others in the industry. With so many businesses operating in the web hosting industry, it can be challenging to stand out from the competition. A unique and memorable online presence through a .hosting TLD can help businesses to create a distinct brand identity and attract more customers.

Overall, I think that using a .hosting TLD can be a good strategy for businesses operating in the web hosting industry, as it can help them to target their audience more effectively and differentiate themselves from their competitors. However, as with any domain name, it's important to consider factors such as brand identity, search engine optimization, and user experience when choosing a TLD for your website.
