It's mainly what you prefer. There's so many free and paid providers. The industry leading provider is cPanel for paid.

Thank you.

Virtualmin has lots of features more than VestaCP it has 2 parts together, Webmin that where you can control your server and services and Virtualmin that where you control your websites and it is little more difficult to manage also it is heavy on resources, as you want to test and learning, both of them would be my choice.
If that one is heavy on resources then does that mean if I use that one I should get more RAM and CPU?

I'd recommend choosing between cPanel, ISPmanager, Plesk for commercial ones, and ISPconfig, Webmin, Vesta for open source.
Which of the ope source would you say is easiest for a novice to learn and setup?

once you starting use a current control panel your kinda stuck cause they do not allow you to move backups/files easy between each other its there way of making you stay with them!
Then I should try out several control panels and see which one I like best before attempting to put any websites on it?

It's mainly what you prefer. There's so many free and paid providers.
Which free and which paid control panels would you recommend for a novice to be able to learn and setup?

I would try all the conrol panels that you like and see who easy it is to use from a novice setup.

I use Cpanel and it is real easy to use and loads of guides they ahve on how to configure it as well.
Most control panels gives you a free trial period these days.

Since you obviously know a lot more about these than I do, is there a couple that you would recommend that I start with?

Most control panels gives you a free trial period these days.
Are the trial periods the type that you have to create an account and sign-up with them and then get the free trial?

If you want to save time then Paid control panel is much better and If you want to save money then free control panel is best for you.

Free panel: Webmin (Not so easy to configure but ok for personal website). Other option is DirectAdmin which charge near about $5 to $6 per month.

How does a paid control panel save time over a free one?

Is it because it has more features or functions?

Free control panel require manual setup like its hard to setup Webmin and add domain but If you will compare it with paid control panel like cPanel then you can easily install cPanel and add domain without manually adding DNS record, Adding IP Address, etc.

What do you think about it?

Webmin:
Setup + Manually add domain + DNS Record

cPanel:
Setup + Simply add domain and DNS record, etc will be automatically added in DNS server.

For commercial, suggest you can consider SolusVM or Virtualizor. it might make your life easier. Cost is not expensive also

I'm going to be getting a hosting service with my first VPS and I am looking into control panel options. What's the best for someone to use for their first VPS, a free or a paid control panel?

Any input and information will be appreciated a lot. Oh, it will be on a Linux VPS.
Your very first VPS and it's a Linux VPS?

Then I recommend Webmin. Why? One, it is free. Two, it works. Three, it gives you a chance to find out what you need to know to manage your VPS.

I am not saying that the other control panels are not good. cPanel is good. I use it, too. However, when I first started, I used Webmin. Reason? I want to know what's going on under the hood. Do you need rocket science to use Webmin? No, not really. What you actually need is one good finger, to peck at your keyboard. One good eye, to see what you are pecking. And enough memory cells to remember 144 characters. More or less.

Seriously, Webmin is a good control panel. It's also a great learning experience. Virtualmin? Oh, of course, it works together with Webmin. Have fun.

In the past, when I have installed Webmin completely I didn't know how to use it because it lacks of Virtualmin while the document for this was not mentioned more and I have read more tutorials to know to make websites work on Webmin then needing Virtualmin.

I would suggest try paid services like cpanel, they have good back office support 24/7 and you can always link it with your linux vps

I know cPanel is one of the best popular control panels but I don't really like this panel, its price is high while the loading speed for websites when running on this panel is not really good like Plesk or DA.

Semi-paid: Webuzo is only $2 for vps. It's pretty good software but not for hosting lots of clients. It is perfect to host your project, but not to sell hosting.

If you are looking for simple and free, I would go with Vesta. If you are looking for industry standard, I think cPanel still has those bases covered pretty good.

Free VPS will do and you can still do a lot of things by that. But if you want the VPS to perform above your expectation, better purchase the paid one.

Well, it depends on which service you choose..the most reliable ones use cPanel, Plesk or Vesta... Did you already choose a hosting service?

There are many free and paid control panels on the market.

The list of free control panels:
ISPConfig https://www.ispconfig.org/
Ajenti ajenti.org/
Virtualmin https://www.virtualmin.com/
Webmin www.webmin.com/

The list of paid control panels:
cPanel (https://cpanel.com/) is the most popular control panel. cPanel simplifies many website administration tasks such as domain management, database administration, and more. Because of a web-based control panel, it will consume your server resource while you manage your site with it. So you have to purchase a VPS with a rich resource.
Plesk (https://www.plesk.com/ ) is another widely-used web panel. It supports for Windows besides Linux. Compared to cPanel, Plesk supports for a much wider variety of Linux distributions.
VPSrobots (https://vpsrobots.com/) is a desktop-based Linux server control panel. It comes with the ability of website migration, backup, and restoration. Additionally, you can manage multiple sites and servers with one license, which makes VPSrobots the most economical one.

In general, the paid control panel comes with more powerful features and have a good customer support.

cPanel is good start. Many hosting companies offer cPanel with Linux VPS. It's user friendly and you have support from the community if you run into any problems.

You are exact, the first hosting control panel that I used is cPanel and it is really an easy control panel to start for newbies. But when you get familiar with it, you will want another hosting control panle, maybe directadmin or plesk onyx because them are cheaper and be optimized better.

I agree with those who said that you should try free options first. See what you like/don't like about them and then choose what to pay for. There are a lot of different options for windows hosting and Linux hosting.
