Could .gram Work Outside Telegram’s Own Hosting?

Telegram’s .gram idea is interesting, but the key question for webmasters is control.

If registrants can use custom nameservers and external hosting, .gram could behave like a normal TLD with a built-in audience. If it only works with Telegram hosting, it is closer to a platform URL.

Would you register one for a real site if normal DNS control is available? And would you trust it for business use, or only for a Telegram-focused project?

The DNS control question is the one that decides it, but I would want to see the registry agreement rather than a feature list, because custom nameservers being technically available and being contractually safe are different things. A TLD run by a company whose main business is something else can change the rules for reasons that have nothing to do with domains.

For a client site I would not, not until it has been through a few renewal cycles with a visible registry operator and a normal transfer process. The risk is not that it stops resolving, it is that you cannot move it out when you want to. For a project that lives inside Telegram anyway it matters much less, since you were already accepting that dependency.
